EE announces PAYG speed cap

All new customers joining EE pay as you go from the 1st of March will now have their speed capped at 25Mbps. I can't help but think this makes zero logical sense?

At a guess, an attempt to push those who can afford it onto Pay Monthly (where they can reach heady speeds of up to 100Mbps)?

If you look at EE's new prices, its pretty clear they pushing for a min spend from their customers (a quite high one), the entire pricing model is designed to make customers commit to a high monthly spend, e.g. the lowest tiered packages are horrific value and even still quite expensive.

I infer from this that they believe PAYG customers to be a problem with regard to availing of the resources which they have paid for (probably that they pay too little).

In my case, I found it much more convenient to commit to 24 months of 200 GB data allowance, with Stay Connected data (2 Mbps before and 0.5 Mbps now), and EE Video Data Pass Smart Benefit in doing my utmost to use the resources promised to me by EE in their terms and conditions, and contract which they drew up.

@mikeliuk ee's pay as you go offering is pretty indecipherable:

WTAF is a WiFi Coverage Boost, is it a signal booster sticker for the back of your phone?

Haha, wifi coverage boost - yeah rite - misleading from EE. There is no such any boost signal?

Hope u reported it to ASA https://www.asa.org.uk/resource/trading-standards.html because it proved that EE are misleading to customers with printed superfast speed!

EE - Superfast speeds but legal bit say: Customers joining EE on a Pay As You Go Plan from 1 March 2023 will have their speed capped at 25Mbps. (that's F**king misleading as 25Meg isn't superfast speeds) I send this off to ASA now with this screenshot!

What don't get me at all. Why is EE saying in the legal bit with no metion of Customers joining EE on a Pay As You Go Plan from 1 March 2023 will have their speed capped at 25Mbps with this link: https://shop.ee.co.uk/price-plans/free-sim? but it this legal bit does saying Customers joining EE on a Pay As You Go Plan from 1 March 2023 will have their speed capped at 25Mbps with this link: https://shop.ee.co.uk/sim-only/pay-as-you-go-phones

Two confused different legal bit but both on same Pay As You Go sim

Since this has been posted, they have removed it from their website. I'll still be reporting it to the ASA and Ofcom.

Question now is how will this affect the virtual operators using EE infrastructure, will they be told to pass on the speed cap to their users eg 1pmobile etc..
