EE broken? 30 Dec 2013

Anyone else having issues with EE 4G?

Was working perfectly up until about 14:30 then died.

Light on dongle is normal, Remote NDIS adapter shows normal in networking, seems to connect fine except there's nothing - no DNS, no throughput.

The EE site isn't exactly helpful - I was looking for a "Network Status" page but there doesn't seem to be one nor is there any apparent support mechanism for MBB customers.

Perhaps significantly the "ee.mobilebroadband" URL which normally shows the modem status doesn't work either which is what makes me wonder if the issue is that the dongle has broken.

Edit to add: area is GU34 4??

Working fine here in Dorset, still causing you problems today?

Still the same today. I'll go and get the laptop and try plugging it into that to see if it's the same.

Does look as if the dongle has broken but then it could be the network.

I look at the EE website to see what the support channels are..

From the home page click Help > Get Help > Internet > Mobile Broadband. Nothing useful.

Click "Contact Us" at the top. Then Internet & Connectivity > Mobile Broadband > See all help on mobile broadband - takes you to the same place

Click Back then at the bottom "Get in touch" > no options for MBB support. Click "Write to us" - support form for "Broadband" but I'll bet that means landline broadband. Wants a "landline telephone number". I have one of those. On VOIP. I don't think that's what they mean.

Leaving the only available options "Go to a store" or "write us a letter and send it by post". Eh? You really want to deal with this by post? Well, no. You don't really want to deal with this at all do you. I can "Call 150 from an EE Mobile phone". Why would I have an EE mobile phone?

And all I want to know is - is your network broken in this area? Hmm.

OK then - works on the laptop but only if you think to open Chrome. A bit like the way in which Three's top-up system always breaks in Internet Explorer on the 3D Secure page and has done for months.

It has run out of data. Ordinarily this would result in a page saying so, but it's as if they've failed to white-list that page.

Try to top it up - page cannot be displayed. Eventually it works. I fill in the page. "This form submit is invalid". Eventually after three tries the site draws the outer frame inside an inner one. 3DS won't work as they've forgotten to white-list that page for people who've run out of data. Just like Three do occasionally. Various bits of the page don't load. In the end I clicked Back and it does seem to have worked.

I'd call these "schoolboy errors" - really pitiable. Three's system was always a bit problematic - looks nice, but you actually expect it to break and about half the time it does. Perhaps the same team of people run EE's top up system.
