Unless you get a CCJ the limit is 6 years isn’t it?

This might be different though, since he’d essentially make two files risking they’d be merged when his legitimate accounts (e.g banks) start to report his account in a few years
I think the limit on a CCJ is 6 years. If they have it down as fraud I don't really know.

CCJs and Defaults drop off drop off your credit file after 6 years, as will a CIFAS marker.

Honestly, EE would probably just remove it if you spoke to them and told them, depending how many months into the contract you are. They're really not the kind to take a hit for that kind of stuff publicly, and i'm sure they'd be more worried about you raising it to the ombudsman or something.

They also have a duty to not report false information to CRAs once they're aware of it - as far as I know. Ofcourse, that's the purpose of CIFAS, but I'd imagine they'd remove the account, can't say if they'd also add a marker

Also, when did this stop becoming a common thing? I know when mobile phones just came out, it seemed like a pretty common thing in the UK

It wasn't a popular thing to do in Ireland, because PAYG was - and still is - the dominant market share over there

Agree with this; the potential for reputation damage and the fact it could result on them being investigated for offering credit to someone underage is too big.

CIFAS markers can go on for U18s however, although would EE log one? could argue that it ID&V checks failed and a marker shouldn’t be applied but then the poster has technically committed fraud.

Either way to potentially mess up your credit file so early isn’t a wise move. If the poster is planning to go off to uni the ability to get credit is really essential, overdraft and even accommodation will be at risk.

While I do agree it was probably wrong, the way some people talk as if it’s a war crime is baffling.

Funny if you step out of line everyone gets mad.

I’m sure nothing terrible will happen to them, it’s just a bit silly.

If only they taught teenagers and young adults about useful things like credit and why they’re important.👨🏽‍🦳

Alright, think you have scared the wits out of the kid enough now, he/she presumably got the message.
Yeah, have to agree.

I wish I knew about this sooner, I haven't taken out credit myself but this is so handy to know about

Quite shocking that clearly marking my age as older on tax forms is less of an issue than doing it for stuff relating to credit.

I honestly have no clue about credit myself tbh

if you’re granted credit for whatever reason under age, this is removed from any such report and written off, because the company knows they haven’t carried out their due diligence correctly and a minor can’t be chased for credit.

That said, a CIFAS marker can still be applied by name and remains for 6 years which can be very severe moving into adulthood.

I just got a call from EE offering me Unlimited data/calls/sms + EU roaming for 18£ a month for 12 months… HOWEVER, that’s capped at 100Mbps. I feel a bit weird about those capped speeds, even though 100Mbps is more than enough for me.

What do you think? Does the 100Mbps capped plan have any limitations in terms of not accessing certain bands, etc?

You can get the same deal but uncapped for £29 a month here . Personally I would never go for a capped package. Theres also a 250GB package for £25.90 a month here which is more than enough data for most.

The 100mbps cap will be fine, go for it. There's no restrictions other than speed in UK (doesn't apply abroad judging by what I've heard).

I'm in a similar place, debating whether 100Mbps would be enough, but personally can't think of a scenario where it wouldn't be. Unless you want to primarily use it as a hotspot for multiple devices. Your offer is cheaper than 1p and I think you get 50GB EU data with EE, compared to 14GB with 1p. I'm currently with O2 without any caps and getting even 100Mbps consistently in London would be such a massive improvement.

I’ve ended up going for an O2 £8 32GB deal for my voice calls to get inclusive roaming and a Scancom EE sim in the same handset for data. It was a decent compromise that works well for me.

Some good sim only monthly deals to be had if you use a javascript blocker like Ghostery to block popup. You don't need to be an ex plusnet customer, and number porting from other networks has been successful, but best to do it post activation.

5gb for £4
10gb for £8
20gb for £10
125gb for £13

All include:

5G SIM Plan
  • Essentials plan
  • Stay Connected Data
  • Gift data to all the family
  • Excellent speed, max. 100 Mbps
  • Unlimited minutes and texts
  • 1 month plan

For EE's standards those are very good. I was going to move my O2 sim back to giffgaff, but the £4 option I might consider.

Just one thing as a warning though, I am by no means saying this will impact everyone, but I did some testing some months back after I noticed my EE speeds had dropped sharply and I do believe the essentials plan is shaped (at leats in high utilisation areas) below 100mbit during peak time. During that testing I had a 1pence mobile sim not affected at all in the same phone on the same cell. The EE service was previously immaculate on the higher tier plan.

If you have more than 100mbps available, some of the time your capped below it anyway.

For example, when Lyca first switched to EE my friend with Lyca could get 900mbps-1gbps at some sites in London, I could only get 100-250mbps on an uncapped EE PAYM SIM
