While Band 20/800MHz and VoLTE go hand in hand on EE, disabling one doesn't necessarily prevent you from using the other. The rumor that one means you can't use the other come about from the restrictions that they place on their MVNOs. The ones who take the budget offering that doesn't currently offer VoLTE support is also sold without access to 800MHz.It is my understanding that you cut yourself off from a significant chunk of 4G coverage (800MHz) by doing so too
1) If I am making a phone call to someone on the Three network. HD Voice doesn't work if calling from EE on VoLTE. But if I drop down to 3G I get the better call quality. (Confusingly HD Voice works on VoLTE if the person on Three calls me on EE though)Which makes sense as I wouldn't see a reason to toggle off VoLTE in this day and age
I don't think it's a rumour. I think I've seen it first hand - two devices side by side, both with full fat pay monthly EE SIMs, one device is VoLTE enabled and one is not. The latter would move down to 2G/3G a lot more. Toggle VoLTE back on and I get identical results. The rumor that one means you can't use the other come about from the restrictions that they place on their MVNOs.
easiest way to check that is to turn off wifi and make a phone call. If you stay on 4G/5G, you are using VoLTE. Calls usually go through a lot quicker too. Thanks, at least it confirms it should be working.
WiFi calling and 4G Calling both support it yes. But there are a few exceptions for example the issue I mentioned where if I call someone on the Three network from EE there's no HD Calling. On a side point, does EE Wifi Call support HD calls?
