EE External antenna?

HI all

Anyone tried the EE supplied external directional antenna? Do we know the manufacturer and model? I've found what could be either the OEM or copy on eBay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/333581641106?

Would be interested in why they chose a directional over fully omni, are they assuming line of sight in all cases and trees don't grow anymore?

I'd love to compare this to my omni....I can feel the credit card flexing...

The logo on the antenna manual is Panorama's (British manufacturer).

Here is a page where I opened and compared a Panorama vs Poynting.

It's directional because it may be primarily aimed at rural areas.

Thanks Lucian

Fascinating to see the internals and compare. I wouldn't trust the speed test data based on one reading, they can quickly fluctuate between runs based on so many variables including mast load.

I get rural, but rural have trees and directional are not (I believe) so good without LoS. Omni better placed for scatter caused by trees?

I wonder if anyone has tried/compared this potential Panorama with alternatives in rural, preferably around trees?

In rural areas I would use a directional to be honest. The signals can get quite faint for an omni, it really depends on the location, every situation is different.

In my testing - not rural and with LoS btw - the Poynting 5G-XPOL-A0002 outperformed the Panorama WMM8G-7-38-5SP, but not by much, I actually liked the Panorama more for the size factor, but if rural I think the Poynting has the edge. Mind you, the Poynting in the pictures (5G-XPOL-A0002) is not a 5G antenna, they have newer versions with 5G support. The Panorama has support for N78.

It's worth a try, it's about £100 on Amazon Prime, easy return if it doesn't work out.

Heya, I have that antenna, it was the first I got last year when trying to go with 4G home internet after finding out about it,
I live in a emerency calls only zone from all 4 providers
I start to get 1bar of signal when walking 15-20minutes in ether direction from my house

With this antenna I get 1bar of signal with a usable connection
I switched recently from 3 to EE after a good offer was shared on here from the wee bear for a scancom prepaid longterm unlimited data sim
speeds with 3 was 22Mbps avg down with highest peaks in my area to 40-50Mbps
with EE speeds avg 35-50Mbps down with highest peaks of 135Mbps
upload with both is about the same 2-3Mbps avg with 3 being higher at 5-7Mbps up

I recently shared in the testing EE section a test I did with both my Iskra lpda p60 antennas and the panorama antennas panel antenna

The iskra's were getting me 60somthing down and 2-3up
and the panel was geting 50something down and 1-2up

I suspect if you already have a weak usable signal for calls the panel will do a great job
If your in a similar location to me were on the phone you have no signal at all
You'd be better off with the Iskra lpda p60 antenna or another similar stronger antenna vs the panel

But like I said the panel was the first I got and it gave me a usable connection in a no signal area, And I still have it just in case EE ever does a 4x4 upgrade to the tower in my area.

Thanks for the detailed reply, interesting you moved to x2 LPDAs as that's something I also want to explore as seeing they're relatively inexpensive on eBay, just need to grab some quality coax. I've seen others test and use these, will give them ago, bit of fun! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/385843092857
Yeah i've seen them in many videos as well, After looking into 4G rural broadband I've watch about every video youtube has to offer on the subject and that type shows up very often and performs very well, and they're cheaper than the iskras, The iskras I found on amazon and came as a 2pack for about £100-£120 but those same to do the same job for about half the price, I did come across videos about them after I bought the iskras.

Let us know how you get on after they arrive, I'm sure they'll do a great job ;)

Ah ha, a YT scanner, me too lol.

I've taken a punt and bought a couple, keep losing B1 and B3 doesn't always bond, it's also a bit of fun and being a techie it's what we do eh!

Will keep you updated, arrival scheduled for 8th, we shall see if they turn up and if there's anything in the enclosure

Shame, I need SMA female to SMA male (extension), why does some kit need RP, confusing!

As this is all rather experimental and coax/plugs/crimp tools are quite expensive, I'll attach the router directly/close to these LPDAs and mount them on a portable pole, kinda cheap survey tool 😆
Check that seller for sma then, he has good prices. You could solder the other end in tge antenna directly.
