EE sim only now only 24 month contracts

There’s 1 month rolling available on the website?

Oh, for sure they’re bonkers, the data allowances are strange on the 1m contracts. Feels like a return to treating SIMO customers like the poor relation.
Their business is basically all about lock in and bundling. Even to the point of family plans.

Personally I don't know why people go for it...

Industry going the wrong way, Ofcom will likely not do anything though. Luckily my retention deal didnt expire with the end of my last recontract (deal is perpetual) and I suspect that will remain much better than their advertised packages for several years.

not that the EE 1 month contracts were particularly amazing deals to begin with.

personally I think it's an area in which Ofcom should step in. 24 month contracts make sense if an expensive smartphone is part of the deal (though some networks, including EE now IIRC, separated the handset and service payments). It doesn't make sense when your outlay is on the order of a quid for SIM and postage.

They have some more reasonable business plans. No inclusive EU roaming thoiugh. I wouldn't touch any of the consumer plans they are insanely expensive.

Also if you go through the buy a sim only contract on a 1 month plan check out how many times the site glitches and slips back to 24 months choices.... Surely some mistake lol

Jon Morris mentioned on DS forum that he'd had a message from EE to say his deal had expired even though it was perpetual and he was being moved to a more expensive plan or to contact retentions.

Could be a sign they're going after some people on older deals with non-expiring discounts.

Hmm, I will keep the forum updated if similar happens to me.

I don’t know why they are limiting you to 100mb speeds on high priced contracts. I understand on the lower end. The unlimited speed is way too expensive also locked into 24 months and price rises. Bring back the old days where there was no price increase for your full 12 months contract

Luckily it seems most of the EE network can barely handle 100mbps anyway.

The account is shaped on oversubscribed cells though. It seems to have lower traffic priority than uncapped accounts during busy hours on some cells. (typically the cells affected are getting nowhere near 100mbit on uncapped accounts as well as they are very oversubscribed). On the few cells that perform ok, it runs at same speed as uncapped accounts over 100mbit.

Until EE sort out their network and invest in upgrades, I see no need to pay for their top level performance, I would be annoyed though if I was capped to 10mbit, the monthly packages are ridiculous, 10mbit combined with really low data limit.

It's playing into the hands of the MVNO's, especially 1p.

It makes me wonder if EE will try and buy them and have them as their bargain basement option like Three have Smarty and VF Voxi.

I intend on PAC'ing over to 1p / EE next month but I won't pay over the odds so I will probably end up on 1p.

They already had 2 MVNO’s BT Mobile and Plusnet Mobile if they wanted to join the bargain basement. I don’t understand why they closed it down! They need to have one of these mvno as all the other networks are benefiting from it.

I understand they need traffic management but just enforce it to high bandwidth users who use over the fair use policy 600GB then limit the speed to 10mb.

They don't want low ARPU, simple as. It's about quality not quantity for them

Exactly this. They're already the best rated network in the country according to most if not all the benchmarks (Rootmetrics, Opensignal etc), the UK market is pretty saturated anyway and EE has the biggest (or second biggest) subscriber count. There's no real reason to be chasing low paying or price sensitive customers, they're in a good position to chase sustainable profit generation instead.
Also with the bias towards locking in to long contracts, that's more helpful for planning investment in the network itself.

I agree on what their likely strategy is, but people who dont want to be tied down for 2 years are not necessarily regular ISP hoppers, the quality of mobile services can change rapidly, and someone might move to an area where the EE signal is bad but be tied down on the 24 month contract. I can see these changes improving 1p, and maybe EE are ok with that as ultimately those customers are still providing EE revenue but they wont be on the ARPU statistics.
