EE sim only now only 24 month contracts

So I guess that if EE seems to match O2 indoor where I am - even with a restricted PAYG SIM - then hopefully I could be fairly confident that I won't be making anything worse by moving to them :)

Just need to test my place of work now really, which I'll do tomorrow. Then I'll have to wait for a discount opportunity in the EE app and decide which plan to go for - likely 24 months! (phew, managed to bring it back on-topic just about!).

One last (daft) question - will I need to arrange a different SIM if I want to move to pay monthly, get 5G and have a better speed cap? If so does that impact my attempt to get a discount using my PAYG SIM with the EE app?

You can use the same sim

You imply that:

1. The new company will offer no more prepay
2. Vodafone and Three are currently better than EE which hardly anyone will concur
3. The new service will be unaffordable to some.

For you affordable might mean "free" or "ultra cheap" but that is unsustainable.

Let the Ofcom or CMA define an affordability criteria so that each provider can offer a conforming plan.

I didn't imply any of those things. :)

More recent testing indicates I might be under an actual cap now at least at my home location. I can still exceed 100mbps but it seems to under the best network conditions (off peak) settle at around 115mbps.

A convoluted trick to get a discount EE is to get a PAYG sim top it up and wait a short while. If you check the app every so often they will display an offer to get a 30% discount on a sim only plan if you call a number.

It seems that many networks are no mistreating pay monthly customers. For some networks out of plan charges are more expensive than if you were on PAYG, or for example 3 charge for roaming on pay monthly but not on PAYG.
I saw an offer today in my EE app saying "Want even better value? Get a 20GB SIM for just £10 a month when you switch to a 24-month SIM only plan".

Is that the sort of thing you were talking about? The PAYM SIM I bought was 20GB a month so maybe that is why they've shown me that one. I can't actually see a 20GB plan on the main EE site, closest is 25GB at £24 a month (reduces to £12 when I select I'm already an EE customer, which I hope is true by virtue of my PAYM SIM?!)

If you ask for your PAC you will be automatically offered 30gb for £9.

Refuse that, retentions will call and ask why you want to leave.

They also still sell 30 day plans, they’d rather you be on a 24 month though…..

For some reason I didn't consider asking for a PAC when on PAYM but that is a good idea, I should try that before my first month is up!
Just don’t miss the call back. That’s generally the best deal you’ll get. I have missed the call before and the ‘retentions’ department when I called were just offering me normal new customer deals.

I’m sure people on here know the ins and outs behind the scenes at EE but I think the outbound team who call you back have the best deals and the ability to build a deal.

It can be minutes after requesting your PAC too.

Have some deals ready too like a plan off 1p mobile for example.

How sure are you of this? that is tempting. I hope it isnt like VM, where only "some" people get these offers. I am also assuming that is essentials so the 100-120mbit capped variant.

My outbound guy gave me his email address to share with people, he actually wanted me to share it, I am guessing he has some kind of commission bonus.

I got offered it two weeks ago and my colleague did last week after requesting our PAC’s online. You can add it straight to your basket and order it.

About 20 mins later outbound retentions called me.

My colleague missed his call back and is now going to have to request his PAC again in the future as they’re not being competitive.
