EFH Broadband - Very Bad ISP

Some time ago I moved my broadband from Tiscali (an astonishingly awful ISP) to EFH Broadband on the recommendation of a colleague. In the early days EFH were very good indeed. Unfortunately, they were taken over by a cowboy outfit called 186.com who don’t inform me when they require payment for anything and when I haven’t paid just cut off the service. Not only do they not ask for payment, but when I call (India) to complain and subsequently make payment they have not once provided me with any kind of receipt.

At the time of transferring to this ISP, I also transferred my domain name from Nominet to them. I assumed therefore that I would be billed by EFH when the domain needed to be renewed; I wasn't and the domain was suspended. So it was that I contacted Nominet who informed me that in the world of the Internet they are like the DVLC are to transport, in that they have ultimate control over everything. So I have now paid them £94 to restore my domain and therefore my ability to send and receive emails.

As part of this saga EFH have demoted my domain to a sub-domain and therefore I am no longer able to view my web site. Yes I've complained many times, and on each occasion have been told that the problem will be fixed within the hour. I pay them for hosting but it seems that they are not prepared or able to fix the problem.

When I ask for a phone number for their accounts department I'm told that they can only be contacted by email.

EFH are an ISP that are well worth avoiding.

Sadly I've seen a few e-mails and the odd post like this around, so you're not alone.

You have my sympathy.

EFH was an excellent ISP before they sold out to 186k. Everything went to pot from that point on.

I have had NOTHING resolved over the telephone, the only way to get things moving is via a strongly worded letter to:

Complaints Department
EFH Broadband
197 North Street
Leeds

Free at Last

I have now moved from EFH Broadband to ZEN Internet - what a difference. Superb service, helpful staff that speak english etc. The only way to deal with companies like EHF is to vote with your feet (or MAC code).

Stay clear of EFH 186k!

I was with them EFH Broadband before they were taken over by 186k in December 2006. Before, they were excellent. After, they became the worst company I have ever had the misfortune to deal with.

Then in March I was cut off for ‘late payment’. I was up to date.

Same in July.

Similar in August, but this time it turns out that without warning, they stopped taking payment (I didn’t notice) hence I was a month in arrears. To resume I had to pay two months in advance because of their error.

I decided to change ISP but I was also due to move house, so I decided to cancel the service and restart at the new address.

I gave them the 30 days cancellation notice as per the terms. They cut me off in 7!!!!!! That’s over 3 weeks early. I’m moving house, so can’t get a replacement and I work from home so that’s a sickening loss of service and potentially earnings!

In answer, they simply repeat “we received a cease order, not our fault, customer need to place new order, no other action available”.

For your own well-being do not consider them.

More woes

I migrated away from EFH at the end of September and they are now chasing me for payment for the October to December period. Interestingly I was contacted by someone who is English. I told him that I no longer receive broadband from EFH and was told that he would look into the matter. Since then I have received two emails demanding payment. Whatever you do please do not sign up with these cowboys. If this goes any further I will report back and also publish the phone number of their accounts department.

I am not one of your 'Dear EFH Broadband Customers'. I migrated away from you a number of months ago and have absolutely no intention of ever at any time subscribing to your appalling service again. EFH have the distinction of being, together with Tiscali, one of the worst UK ISPs. The fact that I have received an email from you only goes to show how shockingly bad your administration system is. I just hope that more people come to this realisation and that your company goes out of business as a result.
