Email facilities

I've been trying to join Plusnet and notice they have a facility for domain reg and email for £1 per month.

As I have already registered my domain name elsewhere and have my own email address would email facilities allow me to use my own email address.

I can't say if all Isp's allow one to use their own domain email app.
I have my own domain and use Outlook Express using my own domain address in Pop3 and SMT set to my Isp's address.

cant see the ISP wont let you use your own domain, after all the only thing to worry about in this case is 1. name servers and 2. details to the pop server and SMTP its pretty simple really... the setups only get annoying if you are setting up your own name servers believe me... lve found that one out already LOL and generally in cases like these youll be given name servers that relate to the server no need to worry about custom hosts err well l had to rant about my experience in server setup didnt l :D

I'm still a bit confused. My domain is not set up with the isp concerned.

So what you're saying is I could setup outlook express with plusnet's email server settings but use my own email address.

if they allow it yes.. however they would have to provide specific details if they allow you to use your own domain for email purposes...

specifically name servers...

to break down what l mean, name servers are input at the domain registrar each name server points to an IP from that point which points to a host dont think l can break it down any better... however if they allow you to you will have to edit new name servers for your domain.. if you use godaddy.com then l can help you by writing a small readme on how to change because thats who l have 3+ domains with so lm familiar with settings however with other places you may need to ask the registrar on how to change them.

don`t be tempted, i know its only a pound a month but if you ask for a mac before youv`e had youre domain for a year youll get landed with a hefty bill:eek:

WTF... that has nothing to do with net connections its a "web host", and a host wont change when you move it stays there... its the next option other than spesifically needing a service provided by an ISP which imho isnt the best place to store emails.

if you have a domain name registered with plusnet for a £1 a month and you decide to change supplier it`ll cost you a £52.88 cancelation fee if youv`e had it less than a year, just to let others know in case they fall into the trap of £1 a month then find when they request a mac they get a bill for £52.88..... regards

Well all signed up with plusnet and believe it or not my own email address works for some reason. I can send and receive from outlook express at no extra cost.

Hi there,

If you have your domain registered elsewhere, you can keep it there, and just transfer the hosting to us - if you like. You do this by simply changing the nameservers to ours and letting us know.

We would then host the website (if you have one on your domain) and the email. There is no cost for this on the Broadband Your Way products (you can host 5 domains for free).

So when you setup your mailboxes, your email addresses would be :

mailbox1@yourdomain.co.uk
mailbox2@yourdomain.co.uk
etc.. etc..

The £1/month is for registration, not hosting - and yes, if you leave within a year there would be a fee to pay.

Alternately, if your current registrar support email forwarding, you could forward email into a PlusNet mailbox, and simply specify your domain email address in your mail client.

however if done that way the domain could end up getting itself listed as a spam.. reason l say this is because generally if you dont have a server to back a domain then a majority of registrars who allow fording dont provide rDNS (reverse DNS) suffice to say places like AOL will often bounce emails or just set them as spam if it cant verify where the email came from, hence why spoofing the outbound email can be annoying...
