Entanet billing problems - Why?

Entanet provide backbone support for ISPs.

Entanet have had billing problems for several weeks. Why?

Please. If Entanet internal staff cannot solve the problem: Call in somebody else.

Please.

What sort of billing problems have you been suffering from?

I have had no billing problems but my ISP has inhouse billing not entanet.

Entanet have been logging downloads of hundreds of megabytes of data on my account, every 10 minutes or so, even when I am not logged on to my ISP.

Downloads are logged even when my router has been unplugged from the telephone socket. (This eliminates a hacking problem.)

I should clarify my original posting:

It is not my billing problem, yet. I was commenting on the Entanet billing problem of false billing of downloading of data.

I have not yet breached my bandwidth limit with my ISP, but I have come very close to doing so. Which is why I investigated the unusually high bandwidth usage.

This has been happening since at least March 2009. Hence my posting. What can be taking them so long to solve the problem. If I was in charge, I would be hovering over them wanting answers. A few hours, a few days to solve the problem, yes, nearly acceptable. But several weeks is just too long. What on earth can be the problem with the Entanet billing system? After all, billing is the business revenue.

I suggest that anybody who uses an ISP using Entanet as the backbone provider looks at their claimed usage, log onto the Entanet site directly, do not use the ISP indirect usage interface.

I cannot believe that I am the only person to be suffering from this false logging of downloads on my account.

Apparently, Entanet have said that they will not bill for the errors. But how can we tell what has been used? Bandwidth usage is not like electricity usage where we have a meter to read in our own house. We have no choice but to rely on our broadband suppliers.

You can try using a bandwidth meter. The best one I have found is Tautology form http://file.xtreme.googlepages.com/bm.html

In the options, set it to count kilobytes as 1000 bytes (same as most ISPs use), and run a copy on each computer connected to your router. Don't forget to add the totals from each computer together to give your overall usage.

For anyone else reading here, I am on Virgin Media, which has two limited periods each day. Tautology allows you to run more than one instance of the program, with a different time period set for each period, which is a great idea, and allows you to accurately monitor the overall usage :)

What does Entanet say when you complain about the problems?
