Epson Scan

I give up!!

Installed - uninstalled..i have rebooted so many times i feel like a cobbler!!

Still..i cannot get the Epson Scan program to run. The printer is fine..it will copy something directly/independantly..but i need the prog to scan and save...

I have poked around the interweb but nothing i found has had much luck..eg.. HERE

Have any of you had this problem..and managed to fix it?

Epson Stylus Photo RX425

Noting..it will print from a document..just seems to be the scan app part.

'elp :crap:

tbh l have found windows will load its own drivers on many of the usual models and its worked well enough for me over the last few years on the random scanners lve found at computer fairs lve gone to.

I hate it when an application tries to load, shows its splash screen and then just stops. It's one of those problems that is almost impossible to diagnose. It usually happens on systems that have been installed for awhile and where a shared DLL or registry conflict has occurred. I wouldn't be surprised if the application was getting into a loop while loading, it might even show up in your 'Processes' list (CTRL + ALT + DEL) despite failing to start.

Most paint/photo editing applications (except MS Paint) should have their own built-in scanning clients, so if you have one of those then just find the IMPORT menu and there should be options for getting content from a scanner. Works with my Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo 11 and other apps.

Other things worth trying are to remove the software, then hunt for any related entries in the registry and manually remove those. Clear out all the temporary files from your /Documents and.../USERNAME/Local Settings/Temp/ folder, swap USB ports for the scanner and then try again.

Remember, most scanners ask you to start the installation process BEFORE you plug the scanner itself in. Sometimes failing to do that can cause problems. Also, try just installing the driver and not the application to see if that works.

However none of this may work and I usually run a REPAIR INSTALL on WinXP to resolve such problems. Failing that only a clean install may work but that’s the cheap solution and I try to avoid recommending it :) .

Epson Scan is total carp anyway, make sure you have the latest TWAIN interface and try it again; if that fails try a 3rd party program. I have never used ES, preferring to control my scanner using ThumbsPlus via the TWAIN interface.

I have found that it will crash if the scanner is not switched on before you boot the PC; you can get round this by choosing "Refresh" on the Hardware monitor of the control panel.

I never got a mail saying of these replies (after Timeless) I will try out your suggestions and see what happens...

Thanks
