Experiment

Hi All, The wife is having an issue accessing her favourite Chinese social sites tonight, friends nearby, but on a different ISP are having the same problem, but other friends in London say it is all working properly.

Could you all please try loading www.hao123.com and letting me know if it loads or not, along with your general location and ISP.

Ping, traceroute and DNS health checks all say everything is fine, but all we get is a "Server reset the connection" or "Server timed out" error messages.

thanks, hopefully the data gather can be used by my ISP to sort out what is happening, even though it is almost certainly an issue with the BT backbone.

works for me as well, tho it took a few moments to load.

Loads fine here too, if a bit slowly.

However, rather oddly I couldn't access the site by its direct IP address http://180.149.132.19. You could also try accessing it via one of those free web proxy sites that are dotted around the interwebz. Anyway isn't the Chinese government a bit censorship happy with social networking, I can easily imagine their filters throwing the odd hissy fit.

Same here, Mark.
On reading your message, tried it again - hao.123.com still working, nice and quick, but 180.149.132.19 gives me:
"505 HTTP Version Not Supported".

Thanks guys. It has started working here again now, and the other sites that were not working sprang back into life at about 11:30pm.

I assumed it was BT problem in the Midlands area because friends in London could access the sites, but later on I ran a few tests using ping and dns tools from various different websites and various countries, and some reported the pages as working, and others said the pages werent working!!

I originally wondered if it was Chinese government interference, because several Chinese business pages I have bookmarked were working perfectly; as you may be aware, they have been cracking down on the social websites in the past week, due to the rumours of an attempted coup in Beijing being passed around.
