External Antenna A-XPOL-0001-V2-41 good signal but bad network speed??

Hi

I got my self last week a 5g from three they sent me a modem which is Nr5103E I when went round the house testing where was the best signal the best i got was fair/good at the front window and speeds of 120mb down and 2mb up which was rubbish.

i took the modem outside in the back garden and my signal went to top end of good and sometimes excellent and speeds of 400mb to 60mb up!!

at this point I decided I need to get a external Antenna in my mind to get my speeds up so I got my self a A-XPOL-0001-V2-41 seen I read other said it works.

i got the antenna and again went around the house testing the best spots.. but this time I only was checking for signal and not internet speed

i found a spot in my house where i could get the cables too and to be able to link it in to my network

I found i got better upload speeds on the Antenna but still maxing at 120mb in download

Monday came around and my internal was super up and down and I found three was working on the mast in the area

speeds still stay the same... i decided to make the cables short on the antenna seen I had too much and I was thinking it might improve it... during this process by mistake i flipped the switch to internal antenna

and notice my downloads speeds 300mb and 14mb up and the signal was at fair! I was like WFT

if I switch it back and fore I can replicated it the change... this really pissed me off seen i made the cables shorter on the antenna so I can't send it back!.

I can only guess the Antenna is not picking up one of the bands? which is why I'm losing speed in my area?

Note the Cell ID and SINR. Closest tower might not be the best overall.
Hi

the CELL ID is the same

but the SINR-NSA 6 on internal and external SINR-NSA 2

also note that the SINR-NSA does move a lot

and I know both are on 5g and the "access technology" is set to nrg5-nsa they both display internal and external.

Unfortunately signal isn't everything. You've got to contend with other users also using the mast, soaking up bandwidth, the mast might have poor / slow backhaul etc. But check what bands you're using. If it has chosen band 20 you might want to swap to a different one. You could try letting it use bands 1/3 as well as N78. If you can find your cell tower on cellmapper.net you can find out what channels are available to you.

Off the top of my head, I think SINR 6 dB is over a factor of two better than SINR 2 dB.

Have all 360° of directions been tried with the external antenna?

not seen that site before... cellmapper not showing anything in Birmingham

nice site I didn't know about it.

well after fixing the bands to b1 b3 b20 n78 I still get the same results the modem internal antenna still does better speed then my external one I have fitted on the outside wall

surely this means my external Antenna is not picking up some of the bands?

I can't think of why I get bad speeds.

yes I have point the Arial in different directions no change part from signal but only a tiny bit.

okay I decided to do some more testing

after working out mast I'm talking to I try each band that mast supported

b2 -n78 30mb 2mb up
b3 -n78 32mb 2mb up
b20 -n78 36mb 10mb
b28 -n78 87mb 19mb up

so I guess the Antenna does work on these bands... it still bugs me why external one is slower..

still the internal one on b28 does 247mb and 15 up which is the best out of all the bands on the same tower.

I have the same antenna and find it to be quite directional. If pointing towards and away from the connected tower doesn't show a change in signal parameters, it's likely something is wrong.

If the antenna could be positioned higher with less obstructed line of sight, that might help. I use mine on a satellite speaker stand in the loft.

My TRB500 has no internal antenna and uses SMA connections so could do a little better than using TS9 connectors.

Perhaps it's worth describing the antenna positionings and copying the best signal parameters seen?

Hi

its mount mid way on the house strapped to the downpipe of the house. pointing up the street

the mast is up a hill from me and loads of house etc

My loft is rubbish and has a lot insulation a long the roof part so it blocks a lot. but i had tested that area just for fun.

the only other place I had good signal was half way down the garden... but I would need to add loads of cable... which my bets would add even more loss.

i guess it could be the ts9 connectors being the issue if your saying yours works fine.

that modem looks posh TRB500..

I guess the question is do I mod my modem to SMA or not

its funny that signal is not everything in the end..
