External antennas on

Hi all,
Just quick question. Does the following make any difference or even improve reception or god forbid make reception worse - (White)5G Antenna Ts9 Omnidirectional 5G Antenna Abs Az7795G 18Dbi High Gain 5G.
They would be used with a Zyxel NR5103E which ive got located up in the attic.
Thanks all.

If you are planning on using the antenna inside, in your attic, it's probably not going to improve the situation. The two main reasons for adding an antenna are because your building blocks the signal (so you install it outside, plug it into the router inside), or because you need a directional antenna for weak signals. It's actually quite hard to say for you if it's going to work. We'd need to know the construction of your house, the cell towers you're planning on connecting to etc etc.

If you buy it from somewhere, make sure you can return it if it doesn't improve the situation. Amazon are good for that.

What are the current 4G LTE signal parameters when searching online to find how to discover these on your router?

What is the current measured download throughput and latency? (E.g. using https://speedtest.net )

I can tell by the advertised title and gain (18dbi) that the antenna is probably a dudd.

If your rsrp right now is under -100, then probably an antenna won't help.

my RSRP is -102dBm/-

does that mean an antenna will help me then?

Take the router, tie it on a stick, raise it close to where you think the antenna will be installed, do some checks on signal and speed.
If there are improvements then it's possible you'll see some with an antenna, too.
Do note, a proper antenna is £100+ ish.

Alternatively you could look at an outdoor router which is a better choice in most cases (no coax losses etc).

Below some examples of good omnidirectional and directional antennas..

interesting testing method :),

might try it over the weekend if as sunny as last weekend but will check out the outdoor antenna suggestions.

you could also check out iskra and panorama antennas
Yes, they also make good products, had good results with Panorama WMM8G-7-38-5SP (directional) in the past.

yeah thats the first antenna I got, It gave me a good useable connection in a area that has no service on a phone from any of the 4 providers.

I know that this thread is about external antennas,
but any comments on this -

I haven't personally tried it myself, but for a omnidirectional antenna it's gain is really good,
5dbi gain from 1100-2100MHz
4dbi gain from 2.2-3.8GHz
2.5dbi gain from 600-1000MHz

some omnidirectional antennas only have a peak gain around 2-3dbi
so it does sound great, and from my experience with their directional antenna I trust them :)

this is it's datasheet

Thanks for the rundown and for the link,
will check the link out and this is something I think I will get(y)

If I lived in a area with a useable signal indoors with room for improvement i'd buy it myself too. ;)
i'd probably go with their 4x4 version since my router has 4 sma connectors for external antenna https://panorama-antennas.com/produ...-5g-desk-mount-mimo-antenna-portable-antenna/

The 4x4 version is indeed interesting :),

however the router I want to enhance indoor reception is a Huawei B593-s22 and that only has 2 sma connectors but thanks though for mentioning as I hadnt seem the 4x4 version at all.

Fyi this antenna is not for outdoors, but it'll be ok in a loft or anywhere else where there's not too much direct water/wind.
