Fast recommended MTU setting

Hi all

Just moved over to Fast from ADSL24 last Thursday and generally pleased so far with speeds and service. :)

Am I correct in assuming that my Broadband line will now be going through another 10 day "training" period with BT before my speed ratings are likely to stabilise and remain at a similar level of the 6.5 to 7mbps I was getting when my old ISP used to provide a reasonable service?

Being a stickler for having all the correct settings in my Router the only one I'm unsure about is the correct MTU setting for Fast.co.uk.

Currently the Router is set at 1454 MTU value which it recommends and advises "Do not make changes to the MTU setting unless your ISP specifically requires a different setting than 1454."

What is Fast's recommended MTU (if they have one) or should I leave it on the default setting?

I know this value is a much debateted topic around the Internet from what I've read!

As you will be on the same equipment in the exchange theres no need to change anything apart from your username and password and have everything else as auto

Much as Lee has said, unless you experience problems (i.e. dropped packets) then an MTU of 1454 should be fine. It doesn't strictly speaking have to exactly match your ISPs figure and there can be benefits, such as to latency in multiplayer games and VoIP, from having it at 1454. Higher MTU's may improve download performance at the cost of latency times but in all honestly I would not worry.

I am not sure what MTU Entanet vISP's officially use; I've seen a lot of different values thrown about and am reluctant to suggest something specific. Just ask the ISP.
