Fast4 dialup, unable to log into windows live messenger, and access hotmail

Hi To All.
I am having problems connecting to windows live messenger, hotmail, ebay, plus numerous other sites i use regular.
this problem only started about 48 hours ago. At first i thought it might have been a problem with my PC, and over 24 hours i have been messing about with my connection settings and running various tests. i sent an message to fast 4 to see if there was a problem, they said there was no problem, and copied and pasted a bog standard reply.

so scratching my head to find a reason for this, i had the idea of using a different dialup connection, which is a pay as you go, and guess what? everything worked as it should.

i got back on to fast 4 and told them about this, and they still insist that they dont have a problem and that the problem lies with me.
if the problem was with my pc, i should have had the same result with my pay as you go connection.
i have also looked at their service status page, and there is a topic about the same problem that i am having, saying that, they have ran tests and they cant find any faults.

so if they have posted this topic, obviously many other users have the same problem, and we cant all have the same problem with our pc's.

i would like to know if any body else has this same problem with fast4's dialup service, and if they have had it resolved. As i am losing patients with them.

i have been reasonably happy with them until now. i dont expect much from a cheap dialup service, but i do expect to reach the sites and services that are common on the net. eg; messenger and email ect..

thanks for reading.. words of wisdom are welcome

actually recently l had a problem with accessing sites, in fact exactly the same problem with the same sites and MSN messenger

while l dont know if EurISP actually provide non-broadband services to Fast4 this problem mirrors mine..

l believe the issue maybe be down to pinging. please try accessing ww.eurisp.co.uk aka the suppliers website who supply Fast4 with broadband services..

the reason l ask is because the other night we realised that while they were setup not to receive pings l couldnt not access anything in fact MSN.com, microsoft.com, ebay, HSBC, and a bunch of other sites.. including MSN now altho technically my issue has now been resolved unless you have a DSL (broadband connection) you cant try using a different protocol to access (or at least lm unaware of one)

how l rectified it was changing from PPPoE to PPPoA however lm on broadband so lm not so sure how to help with your problem but as a note to Fast4 using my problem as a point of reference it will be interesting to see how they react to it.

I am having similar problems with dial up and they are looking into it. Initially they could find no faults with tests they did but they do realise that there is a problem. I am also unable at the moment to send any emails over 1k using either outlook or a web based email I have (which I can access). I may have a similar problem with receiving emails but wouldn't know. A strange problem which I guess may be related but they are looking into it.
Other than that I have had no problems at all since joining Fast4 last year and can accept that there can be problems on occasions.
Anyone else with the email problem?

just tried the opendns. no luck, think were going to have this problem until fast4 sorts it out. or til i find another cheap dialup provider.
i have seen that paul from fast4 comes on here every so often, would be nice if he could make a comment.

yes i have seen that. it went up yesterday. he finnished saying that there could be a problem.
I, and the other people who have the same problem, know for a fact that there is a problem.
its been 3 days now so i doubt anymore will be said til monday.

From the middle of last week, I had exactly this problem with the low cost FAST4 dialup I use at home. Couldn't log into eBay or MySpace and couldn't open pages to several other sites. My old PC running on Windows 98 was having no difficulties using the FAST4 dialup, so I suspected a virus, but couldn't find anything.

Then I finally realised there really was a problem with FAST4 after seeing a message on their status page claimed there was nothing wrong with their service! Finally the problem mysteriously went away on Monday morning. Pity they can't be a bit more honest with customers.

Lol!

Too late now, but problems logging in to ebay, hotmail accessing email and some secure sites is often caused by the ISP's network having a link that can not carry packets of the MTU size set on your PC (MTU= Maximum Transmission Unit) . Well at least it is with broadband connections anyway:)

I think Windows 98's dial-up adaptor defaults to an MTU of 576, it is possible that XP uses a larger MTU for its dial-up adaptor or it has been modified at some time (I always set windows 98's dial-up adaptor to 1500 as it seemed to give slightly better throughput). If it should happen again try temporarily reducing the MTU with DRTCP and rebooting after changing it.
