Hi I'm looking for a bb service as i'm going to be moving to london shortly and considering going to fast 4 as there is no catches after looking at there terms and conditions fast 4 do have a fair usage and traffic management policy as you can see below i download over 100gb a month and by what there t's & c's don't think i'll join them what do you think

11.2 To ensure we offer all our customers the best possible service, we apply the following restrictions. We continuously monitor our networks to ensure that congestion is not occurring. If usage is such that it is significantly affecting service to other users we will instigate congestion control measures. Heavy-usage applications such as continuous Peer-to-Peer (P2P) file sharing, streaming video, binary downloads or other intensive uses are not acceptable. Where the Service has been deemed to have been used inappropriately or indeed illegally to the detriment of the overall Service, we reserve the right to take action against this account.
11.3 We will automatically identify the very small number of extremely heavy users and manage their bandwidth to protect the service for all of our other customers. We believe that this is the fairest approach as it protects the quality of service for the vast majority of our customers who use the service for normal Internet activity. Customers affected by this will share bandwidth with each other and will be separated from other customers. The amount of bandwidth available for affected customers to share, will be at least as much as for those customers unaffected by the policy. The speed that the affected customers will experience when downloading will therefore depend on what these customers are doing. If they are all web-browsing and reading emails, they will experience a normal broadband speed. If on the other hand they are using Peer to Peer or file sharing software they will experience a slower broadband speed.

Does this consist of FUP and Traffic Management System?

Colly

I certainly wouldn't recommend this company. They advertise no contracts, migration fees ect but will sting you if you leave them.. I got charged a whopping £91.91 because I wanted to leave them after 5 months.

I'm not the only one, many others have been caught out!!

I've also heard that for people who download a lot they send you threatening messages. There are much better ISP's to choose from, so my advise is choose someone else.

Yes, visit the Fast4 specific forum and see what their customers think.

Personally I wouldn't enter into a contract (and you WILL be ) with anyone if there was the slightest doubt about their honesty...

in a place like london tho it might be worth looking into BE, they are sure to have the exchange LLU'ed

I wouldn't argue with that.
Personally, I'm completely happy with my current ISP (Namesco) - I only use 2 or 3 GB per month, and with the exchange a mere two telegraph poles down the road my 2Mb line is well fast enough for my purposes, so I have no actual need of BE. However, it's a matter of "horses for courses", and a number of my friends *do* use BE.

They are all sensible and realistic people who interpret "up to 24Mb" as "if I lived next door to the exchange I might see something like that - from where I am, if I get 12 I'll consider myself lucky", not people who are taken in by headline advertising and don't bother to read the small print.
Some of them have been pleasantly surprised, and none of them are actually disappointed.
If they didn't have an overseas call centre (which I'm told is quite reasonable, I'm just against it on principle) I'd even have considered them myself when I moved home a year and a half ago.

ok can i ask what is the main issue of people not using overseas calls centres for support and how much are people willing to pay of uk based support

Two things basically - the first of which is a personal viewpoint which may not bother you.

1) I do not enjoy supporting someone else's economy by patronising companies who cut their costs by using cheap overseas labour, resulting in job losses here in the UK.
("timeless" will, doubtless, be glad to learn that I apply the same principle to buying food and, while I admit that there's often an element of compromise, usually look for food produced here unless it has a "Fair Trade" label on)

2) People who live and work in the UK, even if not born here, usually have a fair idea of the way the telecoms system works over here, and, as it's what they use in everyday life, use the English language in roughly the same way that we natives do. In overseas call centres you are likely to find people who don't have a clue how the system works, and speak "textbook" English rather than "ordinary" English, it's not their natural language (a bit like me applying for a job in Germany on the basis that I passed O-level German!) so very often they can't understand you and you can't understand them. As above, I'm told that there's not much of a problem in this respect where BE are concerned though.

I wouldn't like to put an actual price on the value of UK support - in reality, I hardly ever need to phone support, so from a purely practical point of view, it doesn't really affect me much personally, but if, say, two ISPs with basically the same reputation, offering the same service, were, say, two or three pounds a month different, the more expensive of the two having a UK call centre instead of an overseas one, I'd happily go for that one.
I am probably not the typical customer, but I tend to look at things from a "What can I get that is within my budget?" viewpoint, rather than "What's the cheapest I can get?", and as long as it's within my budget, fine, I'm happy.
