Faulty VDSL Router & DLM Speed Decrease

I had a faulty VDSL router (wouldn't connect) that I wasn't aware was faulty at the time and both myself and my ISP assumed was a problem on Openreach's end.

I contacted my ISP and they told me that they'd flag the problem with Openreach and to keep the router hooked up and powered on in the mean time. A few days later I decided to try hooking up an old router and lo and behold it worked. Unfortunately by this time I can only assume the DLM had a field day with all the errors that were being triggered and now here I am with a brand new router but my download speeds are almost 2MB/s slower (they used to be about 4MB/s and are now about 2.2MB/s).

I've been told by my ISP categorically that DLM will not increase my line rate and that only an Openreach engineer visit could fix the issue but that Openreach wouldn't do this unless there was a problem with the line.

Is there any possibility of me getting things back to the good old days without an engineer being called out? Failing that is there any way of getting one to do a profile reset without there being a fault on the line? I expect the answer to be no but it can't hurt to ask.

I find it a bit shady how the DLM is so quick to downgrade the line profile but makes little to no attempt to increase things and how something that should be able to be changed remotely seems to be made deliberately difficult with the forced engineer visit. I know, I'm being cynical but it seems like a convenient way for BT to squeeze some extra mileage out of their network by making sure people are on absolutely the slowest speeds possible.

Thanks for reading.

Speeds can drop after faults, but unfortunately ISPs can't always conduct remote resets on FTTC / VDSL2 circuits and it's often overkill to get an engineer to do this (potential big cost attached).

The solution is to allow DLM to improve your speed again naturally and you do this by keeping your modem/router connected at all times. The downside is that this process can indeed be slow because DLM adopts a cautious approach, but there's not much you can do about that.

Thanks for the info. I don't mind waiting it's just that I was told by my ISP that DLM wouldn't increase things no matter how long I waited.
