Fed up with Norton software

Errr, thats the eicar file. Its been around for ages. I dont think there is any antivirus that doesnt have that in its database.

If your antivirus doesnt pick that up, your probably already infested with something.

What many people dont know, is that the most damaging viruses dont make themselves obvious. Things such as keyloggers will simply send off details to somewhere, and the first thing you know about it is something has been broken into (i.e. email).

Oh, and yes Im 'paying' for NOD (work pays for it, but I would if they didnt). But Im sure anyone here who deals with other peoples computers get the ones who refuse to pay for anything else. Usually the ones that say 'Ive paid to be on the internet, Im not paying extra!' type stuff.

Giving those sort of people the better free antivirus rather than nothing at all is a good start.

Online scanners are not to be trusted. They miss an awesome amount of files they dont have access to due to rights.

NOD32 wins hands down every time. It makes everything else look substandard.
Avast has, as far as I know, a unique feature that allows you to choose to perform a boot-time scan. which is always a virus free environment.

Nod32 is superfast, even when running programs, it is finished faster than AVG and Avast, running solely on their own.
That won it for me.

I remember Norton used to take 20 minutes just to scan around 40-50 gb.

ive used macafee its ok
used norton was unable to update when using dial up as live update took about 3 hours

avg free updated in about 10 minutes dial up and now 30 seconds adsl,

it works does 90 to 95 % what the paid for ones do ok it has to be updated more often but i get what i dont pay for. works better than norton, i will stick

avast! 4 Home Edition is a free complete ICSA certified antivirus software for home noncommercial use.

avast! obtained VB100% awards in 2002/3 Virus Bulletin comparative reviews under Windows XP Pro and under Windows 2000 Advanced Server.

Thatll do for me ;)

& me.

That won it for me.
When I am scanning my computer I don't want the program that finishes first, I want the one that does it thoroughly.

Check out some of the awards NOD has won. It hasnt missed a single 'in the wild' virus yet. I dont think any other AV company can claim that.

Its fast, its reasonably priced (costs less than norton crap), and is generally all round good.

AVG had a boot time scan, NOD probably does as well. Havent looked, but you cant do a boot time scan of your entire hard disk, or you will be there for many many hours. A friend tried it once, we gave up after some long wait.
