Fibocom FM350 cheap 5g module

I have no issue with getting rid of the included modem.

My concern however is the antenna itself and whether it has the required frequency response, doesn't look to respond well much below 1.7ghz which is a shame but perhaps I'll do a little research.

Yeah the gain at mid band, 1900ish, is ok at 15dB, but below that jumps off a cliff towards 1700 and below. At 940Mhz we're into negative figures for gain. Even at just over 11dB for 1700 it's pretty good but would have liked a better response into the 1500 region.

There's a promotion now, "£3.44 off every £25.76 spent" bringing the modem down to about £86... but add tax and shipping.. it's about £103.. Still not bad, but a bit off-putting.

I’m getting £86.42.

I actually ordered one of these too. Turns out my Seeed Odyssey has no PCIE support on the b-key m.2 slot, so this modem doesn't wort in that slot (as far as I can tell from the documentation, the modem is PCIEx1 only)

I found this little adapter: https://www.cm-tech.com.tw/en/produ...plus-M-Key-with-Dual-Nano-SIM-Card-N266A.html

Their shipping is prohibitive, but after emailing them they were happy to ship it for $15 making it $25 in total. It's the only m to b key adapter with sim slot I could find, so fingers crossed all the wiring lines up for my purpose.

So gonna try it in the Nvme slot once this adapter arrives.

It's here, marked value of £12.66.

Pretty
Good to know.

I bought a WS1688 32MB Flash/512MB RAM. Waiting for it to arrive...and very interested in how you get along with this Fibcom, as I'm considering an RM520F-GL as well.

So, shows up on my m.2 usb adaptor with Ubuntu 22.10.

Doesn't show up on RouterOS 7.6

Will try Openwrt next though tempted to just boot Debian or Arch and configure as a gateway.

Awesome, looking forward to more updates. Shame it doesn't work in the Mikrotik, but hopefully it will with a Linux.
Do you have all the required antennas?

I got my m.2 M Key to B Key adapter with sim card slot.

Plugged it all in to a windows machine and it all shows up perfectly, including recognising the sim card and displaying the network. However it's "Turned off" in Windows as if I had a hardware switch for the sim card in the off position, with no apparent way to turn it on...

It doesn't look like there are any settings to get it to turn on.

I was going to have a look into checking the modem via AT commands, but as far as I can tell it has no COM port. The only COM port that shows up in Device Manager is COM3 which doesn't disappear when the modem is disconnected so fairly sure it can't be it, and I don't appear to be able to communicate with it in any case.

Meritez - I had read on the Lenovo forms and a few other places that this modem was not yet supported under Linux. It would be interesting to see if you get it working. From reading the tech documentation it was my impression that it communicates over PCIEx2, and that USB was only for debug:

Dual SIM (one embedded eSIM2), 1.8V/3V

Function Interface
PCIe Gen3 x1
USB 2.0 (For debug)
USB 3.1 Gen1 (Reserved)

@DEvans Ubuntu 22.04 can connect to the fm350 in 4g mode only at present:

In those details there's mention of upstream libqmi allowing the 5g to be turned on etc.

Welcome to the cutting edge of 5g modem support, the modem is supported under Linux but there's no stable version yet.
