Fibre broadband options?

Hi all,
Looking around for some fibre broadband, currently we are on ADSL2 but our distance from the exchange means very poor speed. Fibre has to be the way forward.

Our current provider has been bought out by a larger company, we have a business service as my dad used to work from home.
We host a webserver at home and would like to retain that if possible, so static IPs is preferable.

Any recommendations?

Regards,
Dan

your ability to obtain fibre based services is determined by its availability in the area.

check this link for the checker: http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/displayTopic.do?topicId=29017

if you can get it then its worth researching providers. on the note of the exchange.. from what lm aware of its much different from old services, currently my area is having fibre fitted seems the hardware is allot closer there are 2 of the larger BT boxes close to myself (or at least the ones lve noticed) so l would say as the crow files there is at least 2 that lve noticed within 600m from my place.

We are FTTC enabled not FTTP yet. I forgot to mention that I would like "unlimited" data as well.

if thats the case Sky are doing a "upto" 30meg (10meg upstream maybe slightly more depending on line length) connection for £20 a month.. in addition to £14 line rental (for an extra fiver you get unlimited calls as long as you dont spend more than an hour at a time and redial)

BT is an option at £25 a month but they state a pretty stringent Fair usage policy. but regardless lm more likely to go with Sky when lm able to.

The fact that you have a need for web hosting at home and a static IP might impact your choice as not all FTTC providers come with a Static IP, which somewhat rules Sky and BT out (after them not many others have "unlimited" use alongside FTTC).

Visit our Superfast Broadband ISP Listings page:

http://www.ispreview.co.uk/isp_list/ISP_List_Superfast_Broadband.php

Then go to the top right and click 'Advanced Search'. The first option 'Included Extras' allows you to filter the list by ISPs offering Static IP packages but make sure to double check with the ISP that this also applies to the FTTC service you pick before signing up. Be aware that the superfast section lists cable and some niche FTTH providers too, although they're in the minority.

forgot to look if they did static IPs however wouldnt it be possible to use dynamic DNS? (think thats the term for it)

I dont doubt there are a few (probably few and far between and either expensive or with small monthly caps) I just did NOT know of any.

Personally id take Infinity or Skys FTTC and go with timeless suggestion to set up a dynamic DNS address. Will likely get more for your money.

ld personally go with sky based upon how annoying BT can get at peak times.. while l cant speak for FTTC services l know quite a few light users who get slowdown.

Plenty of FTTC ISPs do static IP's, as per our listing (e.g. Vispa, IDNet etc.). Generally if the ISP does Static addresses for ADSL packages then they do it for FTTC ones too, if in doubt just ask as even if it's not listed then an option is often still available over the phone.

Also make sure the ISPs Terms support web hosting / server usage. What can be fine on a business package might not be so pleasing for the ISP on a home service, although many probably won't notice.
