fibre checking tool

Hi, does anyone know of any checking tool that will tell me if an address has fibre avaliable in the UK. I'm not talking about fttc, I'm tring to find out if fibre is known to be avaliable for a leased line.
thanks

Leased lines are, by their nature, very much special order. You can get a fibre leased line fitted pretty much anywhere as long as you have pretty much unlimited money.

That's correct but knowing if fibre is already present or not would be very useful And could make a decision on having a leased line or not an easier decision.
I am fully aware of how much they cost and the various deals avaliable, I'm just trying to find out if there is a tool avaliable to see what services are already avaliable.

Hi,

Is it a leased line in particular you are after? I am guessing you would like to know if fibre is already installed to cut down lead times and/or install costs?

It sounds like what you want is an availability checker or map for backhaul / dark fibre providers? Sadly nothing like that exists, not least for reasons of commercial confidentiality, although there are plenty of fibre optic capacity providers (e.g. Zayo) that you can ask to see if they have infrastructure nearby. Otherwise if you want a leased line then you just need to ask a few ISPs to quote you, that's really the best approach.

Nice spot Tom, not seen that one before, they must be one of the few ISPs that offer an actual online checker.

Hi,
Just to help, it would make no difference if there had already been fibre to a building as unlike broadband and phone lines, the fibre install is proprietary and belongs to the person that installed it, so let just say the prior occupier had a fibre leased line from say C&W and then you went to AN Other provider they would not be able to use the existing fibre as it does not below to them so they would have to run a new feed.

What will make a difference for the install is the distance from the building to the nearest POP (or some carriers we use, will quote to their nearest pit)
Install cost will be from termination point to POP (maybe exchange but not always) and some carriers we use if they have say a fibre feed across the road, will then charge from the termination point to the nearest road pit where they can pick up a dark fibre feed they have.
There really are so many variables for fibre, some will do a fixed cost install and others will charge for the fibre length.

At the end of the day almost all providers will give you a free quotation, and once you have a few then you can see if it would be worth it or not (also don't forget the option of sharing a leased line is a possibility, we do this quite a bit)

Pretty much what I was going to explain as well.

There are other options as well like EFM and NGA Ethernet which do have shorter lead times.

I have been googling pretty much this exact question, so sorry to highjack the thread.

I live in rural Suffolk we get 2 mps, which just isn't viable for us. We have decided to look into leased lines as well.

According to https://www.amvia.co.uk/leased-line our monthly costs would vary between £478 to £1229 per month - based on a 3 year contract and no installation fee.

Is this a good quote and what else should we be thinking about?

Thanks for the response Dr Sox

That link is the tool that A&A use ... not the best ... as you also say.

So go with the ones from Amvia and give the providers a call?

Always get multiple quotes - worth speaking to TalkTalk Business and others (Entanet, Eclipse, Zen?).

I'd try Giganet too, they have a good checker for several platforms. Also not quite sure why a topic from 2015 was revived.
