I'm so excited, and of course everyone else isn't. I tell my friends, they say oooh, anyway ...
but I've seen him. In his van, splicing cables. He's about 500 metres away from my house right now and working on a Sunday too.

He didn't show up on one.network either. Its beginning to look a lot like one day soon i'm going to have FTTP.

Lucky sod! Send him up here, 50Meg FTTC doesn't cut it anymore!

I know that feeling where you see the fibre build team and get all excited, but upon telling others you realise that not everybody is quite on the same wavelength [pun intended] :) .

I recall the same feeling. Back in Aug 2020 a number of OR vans plus a large truck were running fibre along the pavements of my cul de sac. It then went quiet and despite checking OR website no FTTP was availble.

Fast forward to April and May 2021 and OR returned and started installing black bell shapped devices attached to metal brackets in each of the pavement chambers.
Then in late May I could order. Could only get BT as other providers only offered me FTTC which I had. Install was 3 weeks later.
During half term they pulled cable through to front of my property. Was away so just saw coiled up cable by existing BT entry point to house.

A very pleasent OR engineer visited last week and installed ONT where I wanted hiding the cable away where possible. Tried looking on OR website if you can complement their people as he was very helpful but never found anything

Anyway FTTP all working very well.

Two strange things I lost called ID display on my landline and my old FTTC connection from another supplier still works 4 days later.

TBH the novelty wears off after a while lol. I had FoD installed in 2017 and this took around 3 months - every time i saw an OR van/truck on my street feeding fibre i became all giddy, and the excitement reached unprecedented levels on 'go live' day in June 2017. Fast forward 4 years later, I also now have Cityfibre based FTTP available and its now a case of "so what?!" lol

If your three mobile can do 311/84 you don't need Full Fibre anyway.

It can, and it's pretty awesome to be honest.

But it does have a noticeable lag compared to say virgin media. I haven't had a comparable Openreach service to compare to but i'd imagine three's lag was worse than that too. The main problem I have with three 5G/4G is it's unreliability, instability, and wildly varying bandwidth. Yes it works 90% or more of the time, and at 300+ mbits .. but there have also been 4G only days and days when it turns to 2 or 3 mbit instead of 300+ not to mention the somewhat constant "maintenance" on the local mast . Although, I've had similar days with virgin media as well to be fair.

I will be very happy to get a fibre service, and continue using three 5G as an emergency backup. I'm now in a 100% remote role, and being online is critical.
