Fibre there, but no providers Yet

Sigh

We have telegraph poles down most of the road, then newer houses have underground connections. Openreach have installed new ducts down the street and fibre laid and boxes (assumed G.fast) sprouted at the top of each pole. However no ISP even the more helpful ones like Zen and A&A don't offer G.fast. (just "keep checking our website") Openreach via checking website respond once with a promise of updates; these never happen.

Various web hits on G.fast Hampshire get hits from 2019 at best = no useful info but guys are in the street as we speak doing something with fibre connections.

My FTTC contract with Plusnet ends in Dec this year and I can't get away from the 600m of unreliable twisted pair soon enough as my connection usually fails three or four times a year. Speed is pegged at JUST above the minimum rate they quote (this minimum gets lower by a few megs every year). Upload is good though at 10 Mbps + they do provide a fixed IP address.

Is there any source other than the ones above on G.fast progress? Neither the superfast office of Hampshire County Council (never up to date) nor our local council site (We are a "Smart City" or something like that !!! ) have any info, and the council member responsible never answers Email.

The telegraph pole is next door so I expect reasonable G.fast speeds, but do they run fibre from the G.fast box at the top of the pole to get FTTP?

Are there ISPs that allow the use of my own modem as I do now with PN or can I at least add my router to their modem?

Input on G.fast providers who provide a fixed IP address welcome. We have Virgin Media in the road too but to get a fixed IP I need a business account which is a lot more expensive than G.fast deals I see elsewhere.

Take care in these uncertain times...

G fast is not Fibre FTTP so stop searching for G fast, its another copper fudge like FTTC and at 600m from exchange you will never be offered it. Join the mushroom club like everyone else.

Start here which is sounds you already have.

and this should give more info but still nothing firm.

Thanks

Yes I'm aware that G.fast is fibre to the pole or cabinet or hole in the ground,(then copper) the first and last apply here.

Apart from the actual go live date (thanks for the link) it occurred to me if the G.fast fibre ended at the box at the top of the pole 0m away, then a very short length of fibre from it (probably no interface available) would get me and other FTTP.

G-fast is a fibre to the cabinet product, if you are close enough (sub 300m if you are lucky), then you could potentially get it.
If you are looking at equipment on poles, that is probably FTTP, which is a full fibre product right in to your home.

The two products are totally different, so you can’t modify G-Fast to give you FTTP

FTTP via telegraph poles wow and I didn't even order it yet. Which as the termination is at the top of the pole means running the fibre by the same route as my existing phone line.

The actual kit mounted at the top of the poles looks just like G.fast but I could be wrong.

Watch this space.

It wont be g.fast as openreach stopped building any more about 2 years ago, and besides it was built into a cabinet attached to the PCP cabinet, not on poles.

To be fair, Openreach have continued to build a tiny amount of G.fast in that time, and they keep it as an optional tool, but their main rollout programme has indeed been shelved for the past two years.
