Films and such, what are you watching and recommending?

The Boys / Gen V
Incredible S2
Halo S1 / S2
Star Trek Dis S 5

Just watched - Good Omens - very good
Also watched "Berlin Station" on UK TV Play (Drama Channel)... first couple of episodes were a little difficult to get into (too much going on,) but after that I have thoroughly enjoyed the 1st two series. One more series to go..!

Just started the 3 Body Problem on Netflix. Good so far.
Apparently there's been an asian production as well, quite well praised. Not sure which one to start with..
Have you read the books by any chance?

I finished Masters of the Air on Saturday night. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

I'm a massive B.o.B fan and while I enjoyed The Pacific it wasn't a patch on the original mini-series but I thought Masters of the Air got closer.

Oh wow, been watching Shogun, it's so good!

Totally agree on this one, enjoying Shogun too. But I'm a bit tepid on how they portray the British sailor, although in fairness my knowledge of history for this era is limited, so it's likely that the show has a much better grasp on it than I do :).

I also enjoyed watching 'The English' on Amazon Prime, although it did go a bit nuts in the last 2-3 episodes.

The English guy seems a bit more goofy in the film compared to the novel, but it's credible imho.

Nothing at present - there's a surplus of dark, violent, disturbing stuff and not a lot of light among the shade. I've stopped my streaming subscriptions for a few months while I wait for some more inspiring shows to come along, I was finding myself scrolling through going "nope, nope, nope" and it wasn't worth the cash.

The Chinese version is still on Prime Video afaik.
The Netflix one is generally available on the interwebz, in fact both versions are. :-D
I'm seriously getting fed up with the amount of video subscriptions i'm expected to have to access a good varied library of content, I was paying for a Sky Stream subscription incl Netflix, Disney Plus (until I got it free for 12 months), Prime Video (now free with O2 extras), we had Apple TV (while it was free), Paramount Plus and probably another one that I'm forgetting

Since we're getting most of these for free, the MOST annoying part is manging over 6 logins and having to switch between different apps for everything. And somebody upgraded my Sky Stream subscription to the full Sky Sports package at nearly £60 a month and I didn't notice within 14 days, but they are paying that direct debit now

Netflix is slowly becoming one of the worst, i'm finding. I need to put this gigabit connection to good use and start some kind of local storage for video storage

There are a few HN mega threads on this subject, the conclusion is that basically piracy is coming back big time due to this, people are fed up.. It's always been a service problem and continues to be so.

For a little while Netflix really did seem like it's turning the tide, but humans got in the way, like they always do.

If you want something that's completely free to watch if you don't want to sign up to Nebula though, I'd recommend watching the show (can it really count as one?) Jet Lag on YouTube.

Cool channel where the creators go across the world playing various games where the world is their board.

There's been 9 series so far! It's ran by the people behind Half As Interesting and Wendover Productions btw.

I wonder what’s actually going to happen when it goes full mainstream again

Unlike the 2000s? and earlier, internet speed has increased up to 1000x or more, but the size of content has barely increased 3-4x if that

I believe a P2P network of FTTP connections could provide a Netflix-like Torrent streaming experience, if it gets popular enough

To be honest, I can only hope that piracy might actually help these industries learn that we don't want everything streaming services exclusive.

I honestly don't like the future where all media is all digital and only available for a limited time or on a certain platform etc

Really showing my age to be much much older than I actually am but at the moment, I'm watching one or two episodes per day of Hogan's Heros.

Amazon Prime "Fallout" trailer looks interesting. Wasn't aware it was in development.
Half-way through, it's been very good so far! Certainly exceeding my expectations.
