Finally fibre is coming

Quickline turned up and installed the inside bits as expected. The Zyxel router is shown as well as the black box connected to outside gubbins. You'll notice the red light on the black box.....

My fibre out to the underground pit (just at next door's path) is not live - but it should be. The pits to the left and right in road ARE live....bloody typical. Still waiting on various callbacks (none received) for contractors to come out and switchit on.... Grrrr.
Ah no that’s rubbish! Quickline turned up to ours today at 9am originally couldn’t get a connection as the network was down (I understand something to do with OR) but all up and running now. For piece of mind this morning I did a Speedtest before they turned up and got 7Mbps now getting 400+ can’t fault the guys really talked everything through to make sure I understood what they were doing.

What’s even funnier is after the install I had a call for customer services saying the install was cancelled due to the network being down 😂

That's really poor planning on behalf of Quickline, although with you being one of the first connections on the new build, I suppose you are going to iron out their 'teething problems', not that it helps you in any way.

I hope they don't charge you for this period while you're awaiting for them to sort it for you. Fingers crossed they have it fixed in the next few days.

Great to hear you finally have the fibre all lit up and working and going from 7Mbps to 400+ must be a massive relief.

It's a little concerning that their customer service doesn't seem to know what is going on in their own business but the main thing is, you're now connected.

I wonder what the issue was? Their equipment is not tied in to OR other than them using PIA where they can, and if the CBT’s either side are live, they likely hadn’t spliced yours in.

Yeah a real relief if I’m honest so nice for things to just load instantly etc! I think with regards to what happened it was a case that because the network was down they had no way of seeing where there engineers were. But all in all a good service from them. Now the curiosity in me is wondering if I can use the phone port of the router for another provider rather than getting an adapter!

A few calls later and they have a ticket for the contractor to set it up - no date though. I'm on a freebie until Feb 2025 so I won't be crying too much.

Woo hoo! We're up....

they're here!

How are you all finding Quickline now with having it installed for a month or so? Has it been reliable?

For me it’s been life changing - and it sounds so stupid to say something like that but even with just the 400Mbps package to just be able to use the internet on whatever device I want without worrying about buffering is great. Having 200mbps upload is also great. The only thing I ended up doing and it’s due to the size of the house was purchasing a Zyxel WX3100 WLAN Extender as we found the top floor wasn’t getting the speeds that the rest of house got.

Great to hear it's been working so well and has also been such a massive boost for you. I shall now look forward to becoming one of their customers soon, especially for their upload speeds. Thanks for reporting your experience.

Well, I'm finally on the Quickline FTTP bandwagon too, they installed it for me a few days ago and all seems to be running well.

There was a slight delay to the installation after the same thing what happened to @cue_em happened to me as well, they hadn't connected up the fibre in the footpath box from the pole, so had to wait a week or so for that to be rectified.

The supplied Zyxel router looks decent enough but I live in a house that has very thick solid stone walls, so the speeds were dropping to around 80Mbps the other side of the walls.

So, I decided to replace it with my own router & satellite combo, this took me a couple of hours to get working with QL because I over complicated the process.
If anyone does decide to use their own router with QuickLine, all you need to do is select PPPoE, enter your username and password and make sure the MTU is set to 1492. Then just wait for it to sync, for me this took around 5 minutes from router boot up.
You can get the username & password from the supplied Zyxel router, I was stupidly changing other settings which didn't need altering!

So far so good and fingers crossed it stays this way.
At the moment, I'm happy.

So after well over a year since openreach shelved their plans for fibre in our small village. I noticed today some guys in hi vis jackets walking past the house with Opals Group written in the back, didn’t think too much of it until I was told there some vans at the end of the road with Opals Group on them.

So I walked around the village to see what was happening. Spoke to the guys who had reels of yellow rodding and was in the manholes with blue rope. Asked them if they were doing anything exciting to be told they are installing FTTP on behalf of Quickline. They also made it clear that it will be a little while before anything will be live which of course I understand. But exciting none the less.

Has anyone had any experience with Quickline and their services?
Sorry to Say this to you but Quicklime is just another OpenReach Partner, which for some is fine getting faster download speeds finally but for people aware were still holding out for synchronous fttp rollouts not affiliated by Openreach or Virgin media. I suppose it's a bit like playing the lottery most people are winning asynchronous FTTP with its hight download speeds but terrible ration for upload speed but if you've been on ADSL for all this time this will be a significant improvement so it's your call, if you're not going to be uploading much data then its fine. (For some of us were waiting out for these smaller providers offering Synchronous fible that offer same download speed as upload and so far, no diff in price although there are obviously outlier's.)

@bodgeip

Quickline are actually building their own FTTP network, although they will also be an Openreach partner because that gives them access to run their own fibre over Openreach's existing infrastructure (poles and ducts), where viable. You'll find most full fibre AltNet's are Openreach partners, but they won't be taking Openreach's own FTTP products at wholesale - unless in a complementary way to maximise coverage.

Just to add to Marks comments having been on Quickline since September now, deposits having watched every bit of the network be built spoken to engineers and everything I can 100% confirm this is not anything to do with the Openreach network. With regards to uploads our speeds whilst not synchronous are a 2:1 ratio so for example I have the 400Mbps package and get 200mbps upload.

Over the moon to say that Quickline are now starting work on our village after my failed attempt to get Openreach to do a CFP which they pulled out of a year or so ago.
One question I did have is does anyone know what technology the FTTP network is built on ? I know they have installed a active cabinet in the next village but wondered if it was XGS-PON technology ?

Going by the Adtran ONT/U in the picture on the previous page it's XGSPON.

Opals appeared to finish work in Pointon in March (Folkingham scheme). Has anyone managed to get Quickline to connect them yet?

The last week there was some digging starting down Millview Road Heckington. I assumed it was Quickline again, but turns out it is Virgin Media. Cutting up the pavements down Millview Road and Orchard Drive installing fibre cables.
