Firenet refusing mac codes.

Quote from site :--

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok guys, this is it, the simplicity is, we cannot get mac codes from our suppliers, they are refusing to help us.

it seems they are doing this to keep our customers from leaving, however we would rather customers leave of their own will.

Anyone who has not got a mac code from application will not be getting one from us.

I apologise over this, but there is nothing i can do untill i get notice that the supplier is willing to help us, our suppliers dont understand the meaning of customer relations and therefore dont care about you or us for that matter.

I must draw this request for mac codes to an end untill i hear something new which seems a total impossibility

Alan

This guy waited 5 MONTHS to be told beat-it !

Shocking, blame everyone they like but 5 MONTHS is a total kick in the nutz.

I am not defending any ISPs here but I have been listening to many members who have hit a brick wall with MAC codes loads on ADSLguide also having this problem. All these ISPs have one thing in common all use the same supplier NetServices.

Since NetServices took over Telefonica (who used to supply MAC codes,) those ISPs have had problems acquiring MAC codes.

The problem is not Firenet's High Velocity, or any other ISP NetServices supplies its NetServices who randomly issue MACs for a while then freeze until they feel like issuing more.

Firenet, High Velocity or other Netservices supplied ISP have no control over what MAC codes are released, Firenet have had some released and this guys obviously wasn't amongst them. I had read Alan’s post on the forums at least he has told his customers what’s happening more than what others do. Next month NetServices could release some Mac codes to some ISPs no one knows which ISPs or which customers will be lucky.

Edited to add personally I feel that MAC codes should be released and the ISP/vISPs should have the right to generate their own without any interference from NeServices as they have shown their inability to comply with this. Also if an activation fee was paid that the MAC codes should belong to the customer and be allowed the MAC code when requested. If no activation fee but 12 month contract again after the 12months it should be the customers. Free activation customers could be charged an administration fee to acquire the MAC code.

My mate was recently trouble by this too and he was signed up to MACACE. He couldn't get his MAC code either, but this was due to a financial dispute with netservices. From what I have read on the net, any issues with netservices not issuing MAC codes to partnering companies appears to be down to non payment of bills or related to a financial dispute ( E.G. Gio internet ). Maybe Alan could step in a clear this up and reasure customers that the reason for this is down to some issue with netservices or is it company policy for all new MAC requests.

Both my sisters just transfered from V21 who are now also netservices supplied and got their MAC's within 24hrs of requesting them. As you say kits some ISP's get MAC's from netservices and some dont. On the whole is does seem that it is down to the actual relationship between resseller and netservices to whether a MAC can be obtained.

Okay - what can we do then?

Fine - Netservices are being awkward so as to keep customers - customers who in turn (like me) now hate them with a passion.

There must be lots of us by now in the same position.....so what can we do?

Is the only way out to cease and reconnect?

If so, perhaps we all need to bite the bullet, say "stuff them" and put up with the broadband downtime.

It's not fair and it'll be a real pain in the bum, but what does anyone else think?

To that end is there anyone here who can

1) advise of a good (MAC code issuing when requested) ISP
2) Give any advice on how the downtime can be lessened

I've read some posts saying that you can change the account holders name on your telephone line and it will free it up for a new broadband account next day. Is this true?

This next bit may sound a bit pissy but how about regularly posting the names of those ISP's that once you're in you can't migrate away from? If netservices (or any other provider) watches business slip away they will hopefully then change their policy and start playing fair. Hmmmmm or is that too optimistic?

Hmmmm ........... bit rough on the ISPs though I'd say. With this suppliers reported attitude, I doubt they would lose any sleep over the likes of Firenet staff going out of business.
Still we've seen it all before haven't we?

Yes but..........

Do ISP's have a choice of supplier?

If so... wouldn't this also encourage smaller ISP's to choose a more customer service oriented supplier?

Rather than a reseller ISP going down, can they choose an alternative source?

I may be talking rubbish here.....I don't know enough about how ISP's, suppliers and resellers all fit together....so sorry if the above is daft.

I Dis agree!!!!

Who else provides low cost connectivity to visp's?
Netservices or one of their off-spring/down-stream providers (isp-box or v21).

If someone like Plusnet or Zen offered a visp or mannaged solution, 99.9% of Visp's will go with a decent supplier! And we'll all get along fine!:D

Netservices arent that bad, im sure if you ask extra nicely, theyll give you a mac code?

whats the full story on this, i take it they were one of the isps that didnt sign the Mac code agreement thing that happened a while back?

Not giving people mac codes is going to make people angrier! surely someone at Netservices can see that?
