just looking for a readme on how to fit AM2 processors l know the mounts are different, and well lve never liked fitting processors however lm looking for information on the new clips etc and a step by step guide just so l can familiarize myself with the process as lm planning on getting a new system and want to know if its worth doing it myself or kinda getting a shop to do it for me...

never liked working with my own hardware lol however its worth looking into to save maybe £40/50

Its really really easy.

I did it a few weeks back. Had never done an AM2 before, and it took me 2 minutes, including putting the heatsink on.

Thats not cos Im brainy or technically minded or anything, its just cos its easy.

Basically, just look to the corners of the processor and socket, and it will be obvious. Lift up the arm on the socket, drop the processor in (should drop with no trouble once lined up) and put down the arm. There will be a tiny bit of resistance to the arm, thats usual.

The heatsink is also easy, just make sure theres even thermal paste on it. If its the retail one, there will be.

It will be obvious which way it goes on, and the clips will be tight to put on, but it wont damage it.

Oh yes, ground yourself when doing this. Plug the PC in, and leave the switch off at the wall. Touch the case (assuming its metal) or part of the PSU every so often, and just before you handle the processor.

It is in fact very rare thngs get ruined by static these days, I have never had a single problem with it, but its better to be safe than pay for a new processor.

indeed.. l did hear that with AM2 systems that fitting the heatsink is even easier as well, always hated using a screw driver to do the clips since l always worried about crushing the CPU by using too much force.. but from what l herd the AM2s are just clip on. hence it would be interesting to see some steps using pics or something lol

Just be glad you didn't get an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU like me, they're the best processors (performance), but the installation is such that it doesn't feel correct even though it is. By comparison installing AMD 939 or AM2 chips is usually as easy as flicking a single clip.

Just to back up something "old dude" said. Do not forget the thermal paste. It is absolutly 100% essential. I forgot on an old Socket A processor and it fried 5 seconds after turning it on. It was too hot to touch and only fit for the bin.

Have you got a retail heatsink?

havent bought the system yet, just wanna see how easy stuff is and how likely it would be fore me to .... mess it up lol

Yep there's nothing like getting it wrong and throwing £70 down the drain... (damn fragile Socket-A processors)

well looks like lm getting my new system sooner than l thought :p

heres the spec:
AMD64 4600+ Dual core
MSI K9N Ultra 2F AM2 nForce 570 (AM2)
1GB ram
Sapphire ATI Radeon X1050 256MB PCI-E DVI TV Out
Hiper 530Watt BLACK ATX Power Supply (heard good things about this make due to the fact l only have to connect the connectors l wish to use, in short l can get rid of those l dont want because the connectors are changeable at the PSU end)

l did get a few other bits that are the usual things to get however lm really looking foraward tp setting up my new case which is a Thermaltake Armour with 25CM side fan, from what l see it looks to be a beast of a case :D
