Fixed Price contracts!

I just noticed that Community Fibre is advertising fixed price contracts ("price fixed for your contract if you join by 04.11.24"). For the 24 months plans that's great although the £ 4 out contract increase is too steep for the lower tiers. For the 150Mb/£21 plan that's an 19% increase after 2 years and for 1Gb/£26 plan that's an 15% increase after 2 years. I think the £ 4 increase only makes reasonable case on the 3Gb/£56 plan as it's a 7% increase after 2 years.

For that reason, I went with 1Gb/26£ deal via Uswitch (£150 voucher), got installed yesterday. Got a Linksys MX5600 router and Adtran modem. So far the speeds are good, ran speedtest on my phone near the router gave 700/544 Mbps (download/upload), this falls down to 550/437 Mbps on the first floor. I am well pleased.

Be aware of some issues with Linksys when they get disconnected and need a reboot to fix. There is another thread about this.

thanks ! I have read the threads as you say, quite detailed. It's got disconnected this morning and then rebooted. Will keep an eye in the logs, I have short listed a few wifi6 routers, in order of preferance Flint2, Asus RT-AX52. Asus is also £49 on amazon where flint2 is £103. I am not a heavy user so may go for the RT-AX52 if I have to.

I had 3 ASUS routers before my pfsense box and I never had issues with them. Depending on the model the WiFi coverage will vary but I long moved to Ubiquiti UniFi mesh so I was only briefly using the ASUS as an access point. Much better if you can split the router job role from the WiFi job role as it means both devices are less busy and can decorate themselves to a single role.

Welcome! I went with the same CF package too, although I'm expecting a £150 Amazon voucher instead. Sounds like good speeds for upstairs. I'm in a 1800s Victorian cottage, so I struggle to get anything in some rooms upstairs, hence why I ended up buying a second Linksys off eBay for £40 odd, which massively helped.

Fingers crossed my disconnect issues disappear, because I would feel slightly annoyed if I had to buy my own mesh WiFi setup in order to have reliable internet (I WFH).

Sad that this has to be a competitive product rather than a legal requirement.
