OK so I understand the basic principles of VoIP, but I haven't actually played around with it in practice.
However I may soon need to set up a VoIP system in a home setting (note: not mine!). The landline number would be ported to A&A's VoIP service, as the prices are very reasonable and A&A is a trusted and well established provider.
The question is what equipment to use. I had initially thought of using the existing DECT phones with a simple ATA, but I've read about various disadvantages with ATAs- particularly the potential for echo sounds - and the suggestion it's better to go with 'native' VoIP kit.
For VoIP DECT kit, the choice brands seem to be Gigaset, Yealink and Panasonic.
One strong preference (so as to mirror the existing setup) would be for the DECT base unit to incorporate a standalone answerphone (i.e. no reliance on a network voicemail service), ideally with a numeric indicator showing the number of messages and straightforward buttons to play/pause/replay/delete said messages directly from a speaker in the base unit.
From my slightly haphazard research, I've not immediately found something that fits the bill.
I'd also want kit that is reliable, won't 'glitch out' occasionallly, doesn't need regular power cycling and is future (IPv6) proof.
Just wondering if the wise heads here might be able to contribute any sage advice on the matter? Many thanks.
