Freetime Anytime not available in my area?

Renners

Hi all,
I'm going to change ISP and Claranet looks to offer what I want. However, they have an availability checker that says Freetime Anytime isn't available in my area.
I can't understand why this would be as I currently have unmetered access with another ISP based on BT FRIACO. I have a standard BT line.
I've emailed claranet about this but I might get a quicker response here :)

Cheers, Renners

Hi Renners as you will see two down the topics list I too used the availability checker which indicated no service in my area.

I emailed Clara about this and would you believe they telephoned me and along with a lot of other info the guy said if I'm on a BT line there's no problem.

To be honest listening to him I gained the impression he was a salesman and not too clued up on the main question regarding go or no go in various areas.

Thanx 70cm Guy (I'm not going to ask about that username!!) I'll wonder if they'll call me too... hopefully tomorrow!

Did you sign up with Clara? How's the service?

Cheers, Renners

The Dialups are mainly hosted by NTL and Kingston - I don't think they use BT at all. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

See <a href="http://www.ispreview.co.uk/ubb2/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=26;t=000076" target="_blank">this thread</a> and have a look at the post by Boeing. :D

Well, I've had an email from them saying "sorry you can't get access" but offering no further assistance.

It seems a couple other people have had better luck by talking so I might give 'em a call later....

Cheers, Renners

Oh btw Renners nearly forgot regarding my username or as us amateurs call it 'my handle' I'v had quite a few nod nod wink wink comments about it but sorry to be a bore its derived from my favourite amateur radio band which is 432 mhz or 70 centimetres, hence 70cm guy.

Hi Banger well this situation becomes more confused as time goes on, you will recall that my initial attempt to join failed due to the online availability checker saying the service is not available in my area.

I then emailed Clara.net and instead of a reply I received a phone call to my home which was nice of them, and the guy told me there would be no problem and he will send me by email the necessary form to fill in and post back.

I got the form within 15 minutes of our conversation, all very efficient, but this is where the problems started as two conditions had been imposed contrary to my expectations.

I had hoped to pay by credit card monthly, the form stated they require direct debit either quarterly or annualy, which I'm not prepared to do.

I'v since read in this forum that at least one member has joined Clara using the conditions I required, so I decided to email their head office and seek clarication of what exactly can and can't be done.

The person who replied this time didn't address my questions because he said the service is not yet available in my area, so how on earth was the first person going to achieve it if I'd filled in the form and returned it.

Conflicting information like this breeds mistrust and I'v gone off the whole idea of joining Clara net.

Regards 70cm.

Fair enough seems they have an inter-departmental communication problem or the 2nd guy used the on-line checker to check to see if you could sign up. Either way bit of a balls up.

Hi Banger I think you summed it up very well, and I'v just received another email telling me if the service was available in my area it is ok to pay monthly by credit card.

Well its a shame because after the initial offer I was full of enthusiasm and it's quite a let down, but I feel an explanation from the first guy is a reasonable thing to expect as he's obviously in a world of his own inside the Clara organisation.

I have both his direct email and phone number so I will contact him, but I have no intention of informing his boss/s about this, but would just like to know why an informed employee of Clara got it all so wrong.

Regards 70cm.

confusion

There seems to be some confusion, first of all '70cm guy' did you call their business department ?

Their business department is totally separate from their home user department, I do know for a fact that using a FreeTime AnyTime account can be paid monthly on a credit card or switch card, to be honest if you call their support line they will not accept any other payment especially direct debit or paying annually, by you calling the business department they are giving you business information.

With regards to finding out if your in the correct area for the account the person you spoke to who could and should have checked if your in the right area to begin with.
