From their FAQ...

Are there limits of how much data I can transfer?
No, however, where a user is downloading excessive amounts of data, their bandwidth maybe restricted during peak times.

What if I exceed my bandwidth limit?
Research suggests that your allocated bandwidth should be more than sufficient for domestic use. AVC protects the service against misuse, If your bandwidth limit is exceeded your service may appear slower during peak times.

So there are no limits, but if you exceed your limits they're going to cap you. Same old story.

I'm never quite sure how they get away with this from a legal standpoint.

Threatening to cut users off for abusing their systems is perfectly fair - but when you don't specify what constitutes abuse then how can either the ISP or the user possibly defend themselves?

It does have a ring of familiarity

Sorry but you've confused me a little

The AVC broadband FAQs seem quite straightforward and truthful to me -indeed I find it refreshing that they appear not to be over-promising their service. At the risk of sounding a bit rude, might I suggest it is you who are reading things into their statements. Look at it this way - no service currently being offered that I am aware of (for the sort of monthly rates we want to pay anyway) is offering guaranteed, unlimited, zero contention downloads without some sort of sensible realistic caveat. Give 'em a break!

Aggh. Im tired of ISPs saying this.

You think that gives you a right to be so vauge about limits that users have no idea when they will get penalised for downloading stuff?

That is so unreasonable.

How can you justify saying that although you pay a lot of money for a service, it has a limit to its use, but they are not going to tell you.

You will have to excuse the opinions, but when a new user comes on the forum and their first post is recommending a service they havent used (you havent said you have got it), and defends them for seemingly no reason, it nearly always turns out to be someone trying to advertise the service for themselves.

And its not as if astra is a big selling point either as all the satellites are clustered the only reason they have 28.2 and 28.5 is that they are owned by two different companies, sky broadcast from both positions to the same minidish, as at this distance the dish doesnt notice the 0.3 gap.

So internet from your existing minidish is just plain lies, as its being done already. your not first, get over it.

Now come up with some decent packages. and customer service. luckily im off to adsl because i wouldnt trust another sat provider with my cash as they have all gone the same way.
