Frustrated that I cant reinstall Win 7 again

rruwalton

ISP Rep
Up until a few days ago I was running XP & Win 7 on a dual boot.

As I'd had no issues with Win 7, I decided to format the system and use Win 7 alone. I formatted the hard drive and put Win 7 on but then the disk that accompanied the motherboard would not work due to a driver issue. I tried to load the drivers as XP SP2 comatability but to no avail.

I put XP back on and I've got everything working ok - Wireless is fine etc

I am frustrated as I have put Win 7 on before cant recall what I did to get it working.

Here are links to the drivers on the disk I mentioned above and info c/o cpu-z about my motherboard.

I would very much appreciate some help on this. My pc passes all the Windows 7 advisory tests.

Can you clarify the problem please rru?

You say the CD/DVD (disc) that came with the motherboard would not work because of a driver issue, which is confusing :) . Disc's don't need drivers but the drive does need drivers and.. omg I have gone cross eyed lol. Anyway I guess you mean that some of the DRIVERS don't work or refuse to install?

If so then that would normally be easy to fix. Visit the motherboard manufacturers website (BIOSTAR - http://www.biostar.com.tw) to see if they have any Win7 compatible updates. Now I did have a look for you but sadly could not find anything during my short search.

Alternatively you could get the reference sound driver by hunting on Realtek's website (reference drivers might have problems getting the MIC to work as different Mobo's usually use a slightly different INF file) and the chipset one by checking out Nvidia's website.

I think your motherboard chipset is based off the nVidia nForce 430 (MCP61). I had a real problem finding new reference drivers for this, ironically the closest I could get were the 64Bit XP/Vista ones from 2009 :) . But I didn't spend more than 30mins looking so..

UPDATE:

Ok I fiddled around on Nvidia's website, which doesn't seem to list its nForce 4 series, and found that the nForce4 series compatibility is still existing in some of the more recent chipset drivers. Here's the 32Bit Win Vista/7 one. Not sure if it will work but..

Many thanks Mark. You've really gone the extra mile. :)

I will download the file and try again with Win 7.

Wish I could recall how I did it last time. I suppose its an age thing.

Thanks Andy - much obliged :)

Set up Win 7 on a small partition but cant connect to the Wireless set up I now use :(

If your wireless setup is based off a router / access point with DHCP enabled instead of Static IP assignments then this should not be a problem. Can you explain a little more about what is going wrong?

UPDATE

Found an updated driver for the negear adapter and it connects to wireless now :)

Thanks Mark.
