FTTC enabled but only 10MB, There are cabinets closer !

Hello

doing some research and found my cabinet. it is 2841M to my house and I get 10MB. Most of the properties have between 30 and 300MB. Seems ridiculous. my only other option is FTTP on Demand and pay Openreach £20k!. . Is there anyway to get Openreach to move me to a closer cabinet ?

I assume from this that you're on an ADSL rather than a VDSL/FTTC "fibre" line, which means that the broadband actually comes from your local exchange rather than the cabinet.

In any case while it is sometimes - rarely -possible for lines to be shifted to a different cabinet, in most cases this would require a lot of additional work or may simply not be possible. Generally Openreach will not do this.

It might help if we knew a little more about your location?

10 Mb/s at 2.8 km is about right for VDSL/FTTC if the lines are in good nick - it’s about what we get around here at that range.

Our own line is 5 km, so no chance at all for FTTC. While there is a closer cabinet on a different exchange, I would not regard the 600 m of new cable required to bridge the gap as a good use of resource. Better to rely on fixed wireless as a stopgap until FTTP eventually makes its way down our lane.
