FTTP available from SKY/Vodafone but not BT

Hi
We have had the fibre installed in our village up to the telegraph poles.!
Then I received an email from Openreach saying FTTP is available and if I use the checker from the openreach site it says its available and gives a list of providers. If I follow sky/vodafone i am offered full fibre packages. If I follow BT I am only offered FTTC which is what I am on already.
I rang BT broadband who said FTTP was not available (the BT wholesale exchanege checker does say FTTP no available still , 3weeks later after openreach email). They went on to say that if I progressed with another ISP thay would likely not be able to provide FTTP and I may end up with no internet or landline!
They went on further by trying to get me to extent my contract by another year for a small discount!
Has anyone had a similar experience ?
Many thanks and regards

Sounds very much like -

A, Databases taking time to catch up and reconcile properly

B, BT (Consumer) using questionable tactics to get you to stay and extend your contract.

I’m thinking more A as wholesale takes years to update.

"I’m thinking more A as wholesale takes years to update." - ouch
So do you think I could actually be sucessfull in ordering through Sky / Vodaphone / Zen etc. I am worried that I could loose my FTTC without getting FTTP!

If you want to stay with BT (retail), then you'll just have to wait until BT / BT Wholesale shows it as available to order.

Note that if you do get FTTP from BT, and you want to keep your phone service, then you'll be forced to use the BT SmartHub and won't be able to replace it with your own router.

Alternatively, you can order FTTP from Sky or Vodafone, who can port your phone number to their network and present it on a port on their router. The porting of the number will automatically cease the BT FTTC. But don't do this if you're a long way from end of contract, as BT will charge you early exit fees.

Right now, you also have an opportunity to separate your voice and data (which I strongly recommend). Here's how it works.

You order FTTP from some other supplier as a separate service, which runs alongside your FTTC. Order it without phone (Zen), or with a new phone number that you won't use (Sky/Vodafone). This won't affect your current FTTC service in any way, although for a while you'll be paying for two services.

When FTTP is up and running, get an account with a VOIP provider (like free Sipgate Starter), and test it with an ATA or with an app like Acrobits Softphone. When that's working, you can transfer your existing phone number to them (in the case of Sipgate this costs £30), which as a side effect will automatically cease your BT FTTC and landline. (Again, beware end of contract terms).

At this point, your "land line" phone number will be completely standalone. You can use it from anywhere in the world where you have Internet connectivity, and any future broadband migrations won't have any impact on it.

Many thanks for that advice. I cant believe the bull that the BT broadband people were giving me. I got confirmation of FTTP from Openreach below.
My problem is that I have 15 months on contract which will cost I think like £500+ to exit. So it sounds like I have have to wait up to 15 months!

Thanks for your recent enquiry via the Openreach website about getting faster broadband.

I’ve looked into your enquiry and can confirm our systems are already showing that Fibre to the premises (FTTP) is available to order, however, not all providers use our network, for their own reasons, so you might need to shop around to enjoy the benefits of faster fibre broadband.

To receive Ultrafast speeds on our Fibre network, you now need to place an order with your chosen Service Provider.

Openreach doesn’t provide phone, broadband or TV services directly to anyone. You can find a list of providers here

FTTP https://www.homeandbusiness.openrea...ltrafast-broadband/ultrafast-fibre-buy-it-now

If your provider has any issues placing an order, ask them to contact us directly.

I’m glad we’ve been able to resolve this case for you, the great news is you’ll now benefit from speedy broadband to your door which means faster downloads, lag-free gaming, and less buffering on music or video.

I will close your case as you can now place an order."

If you want FTTP sooner than 15 months and without a leaving contract early penalty then your current provider will probably permit you to upgrade from FTTC to FTTP if you agree to a new contract that means you spend more money with them, and this also means probably taking all of the existing service over including the phone service.

@plunet: You rather missed the point of this thread. The point is that the current service provider (BT) is not offering FTTP at all yet, even though other providers are.

The solution is to wait. The reason it's not available could be because of lack of crosslink capacity from BT Wholesale at that exchange. The required upgrade could well happen within a month or two; it's not like BT Wholesale to leave gaps in their footprint for a long period of time.

Once it shows as available on the BT Wholesale checker, I'd expect BT Retail to be able to sell it within a few days.

Yes I get it, many thanks, but the irony. An Openreach engineer knocked on my door this morning and asked, do I mind if he lies the fibre across my drive (the pole is on the edge of my drive) while he installs FTTP to my neighbour (for sky)!!!!. Still nothing from BT, :ROFLMAO:

As stated the cablelink shouldn't be long and then you should be able to upgrade mid contract . I would check every couple of weeks as no way will it take 15 months for BT to become live .

Have you called them in the last couple of days? Sometimes the online checker takes a few days to update but the call handlers can place the orders over the phone.

@Green Meanie
Yes checked this week and no change, although the person I spoke too said they would send a fibre enquiry form to Openreach. Its been about four weeks since it was showing available from Openreach.
In the mean time they are loosing customers as I am now often seeing other ISPs(mainly SKY) installing to premises on my daily walk around the village.!

I would just pass on BT for now, Try someone like Giganet and follow the advice from @candlerb about separating your landline and broadband

Yes its tempting, they are offering 150mb for £32 or 300mb for £35, but add that to the £50+ BT are charging me and will be paying nearly £90 for the next 15 months.

Just for info I got this update from BT
"
Thanks for taking the call this morning. As discussed on the call, the Fibre Readiness form to Openreach has been responded to, and they have advised that Full Fibre is available.
However, unfortunately we aren't able to order it via our sales application.
An Action has been tasked to our Data Integrity team to investigate, and we hope to have a quick resolution."

That hopefully sounds like something just didn't get updated in the background and its just a matter of them correcting their systems.

At least they are now aware it should be available to order so thats good.
