FTTP build progress stalled - blocked duct

Hi everyone, was hoping to try and get a little advice from you knowledgeable bunch.

I currently live in a rural town, FTTC is available and I currently receive approx 30mb DL /15 UL.

Gigaclear have bene in the area for approx 1 year building, and we've received many leaflet drops from them and have been in their build plans (bit of a geek and checked one.network).

I've contacted them to see how things are going as we've dropped off their buildings list and they have mentioned an openreach duct is blocked and until this is cleared they can't proceed adding fibre to our street.

Apparently another altnet has logged the same issue with openreach to. My question is, is this likely to be something openreach fix or have a timescale to fix? Gigaclear mentioned possibly digging themselves, but I'm not sure if that's likely, or if anyone has experience? Is there anything I can do to nudge openreach along? I did think a letter to my MP might help, but equally I could be a little dramatic LOL.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Ta, Dan

Some of the questions you need to ask Gigaclear is what had they done to date to try and get the blockage cleared. Did they apply for permission (from council for a civil dig) to clear it and if so what type and where is the blockage. if a major one it might not be in there costing to clear and as you are now not in there build plan it looks like they have moved on. MPs don't have any powers and can only write a letter asking OR for information but worth a try. I doubt they will give much away on the subject and don't know anything about Gigaclaer but I guess there using Openreach network I'm sure there are others here who might be able to give you more pointers

I guess it might come down to how many people they can't serve due to blockage and cost of clearing it.

If there's 100 folk dropped from plans and cost is £1k it's a no brainers. If there's 10 folk and cost is likely to be more like £10k(roadworks, traffic management, access to private land etc) it may just not be worth it

Thanks so much for the advice. They've mentioned that they need to wait for openreach to clear the blockage. Would that sound right?

The questions you mentioned are really useful - really appreciate it.

I would ask why they are not undertaking it but this could be the issue in itself like Mwarby said it could be somewhere on private land in the middle of nowhere which is not costing and OR have there own interest so might not be top of there list to do anytime soon. it really could be anything and for you to find out you will have to try and talk, send emails etc just to maybe find out what the issue is and then its out of your hand anyways really sorry.
