FTTP installation

Hello,

Thinking of ordering one of the Sky full fibre packages for a relative.

Unfortunately, where the legacy copper cable ingresses into the property, there is no power socket for the ONT.

After some discussion it was suggested that the best entry point was approximately 12m from where the existing underground ducting (which I presume would be used for the fibre along with the copper) surfaces outside the front door.

I've done some searching online and see that Openreach offer a Premium Connection product for non-standard installations, but the different articles I've read quote different distances.

My questions are:

- do I need to order this Premium Connection service for a 12m external cable run around the house, and;
- how do I specify that in my order online (I can't see anywhere that allows you to specify)?

Regards,

Ben

The standard install states
  • run any external cable needed to reach the nearest suitable fibre entry point.
Premium should only be needed if over 15m

You relationship is with the ISP not OR but invariably as long as you are not asking for both external and internal cabling they will probably just do it. Its more a time constraint.

I have a friend getting OR FTTP on 30th and she needs around 9m of external from the duct to entry point so we will see.

I had CityFibre FTTP installed and I'm in the same situation, the copper cable comes in at a completely unsuitable point (there's no power and no room for anything there, just a GPO junction box). The next two interior spaces along the wall are a bathroom and a bedroom, so I was a bit concerned because neither is suitable for an ONT.

CF were totally fine to run about 8m of fibre around the outside of the property to a more suitable place (near power, and close to where I want my router) for the ONT. I can't see OR being any different.

Most installers are aware of the fact that FTTP is a complete different technology to copper and has different requirements like multiple plugs for ONT and router, router location is important for better wifi in the house or connecting to other wired devices / internal network. So they should accomodate most reasonable requests. If you want to do any external/internal runs and you run conduit in advance with a pull string they almost certainly be most wlecome as it will speed up their installation process.
