FTTP Networking Options

I've got BT Ultrafast via Openreach on the way and have been looking for information on the smarthub but struggling to find so thought this community may be able to help. (With the pre apology if this is an obvious question!)

I'm coming from Virgin where I had my superhub in modem mode and ran an amplifi mesh that I was really happy with.

As I understand it, the ONT is effectively the modem and the smarthub acts as an access point and hub/switch so.... would I just be able to connect the WAN port of my amplifi to the ONT and skip the smarthub altogether?

If you can have the BT log in details in your amplifi I don’t see why not.
