FTTP roll out imminent..?

Hello all.

In my area of Huddersfield (HD8 0EY) we’ve got FTTC and Virgin Media. City Fibre are rolling out FTTP in parts of the town as well

Theres been a lot of Openreach activity recently involving new poles being erected lots of work on existing poles like shown on the image.

Does this look like OR are getting ready for FTTP in my area? If so what kind of timescales does it normally take for the service to be available?

Thank you

Jim

Usually c.12 months from build to live, but it does vary and COVID-19 may impact the usual expectations. You could try putting your post code into Openreach's fibre checker and see if it gives you a "coming soon" style result for FTTP.

Hi Mark
Thanks for the reply. Based on the above image does that support the view that it is FTTP infrastructure?

Nothing showing on Openreach's fibre checker. Might it be used by City Fibre for their roll out??

Regards

Your area is not showing on the Openreach Fibre First maps. It could be related to a specific piece of work outside their rollout plans or others intending to use OR duct/poles.
See map for Leeds and move to see Huddersfield.

Similar pole and cable activity here in Cumbria. Speaking to Openreach engineers on site, I get the impression it’s weeks rather than months to finish work though it did start 18 months ago but with complete inactivity for most of that time.
If it is FTTP the coiled cables on the poles will show as fibre if you look closely just like ours.
Register you interest with Openreach and they say they will update you(though they haven’t with me since last December). There seems no other way of getting information other than looking for fibre availability by putting in your postcode!
Good luck.

Here are 2 other poles in our locality. Does this bode well for FTTP? On roadworks website there’s loads of BT activity planned including several new telegraph poles....

From what I am hearing unless you already have the ONT fitted in your home dates have been pushed back to June.

No I dont have one of those yet

There was work planned on our road for 3 days at end of March but this never took place and on roadworks website its no longer planned

Just had this from Openreach. Not really very useful!

Hi James,

Thank you for getting in touch with your query.

We’ve looked in to this for you and we can confirm that your location is included in one of our rural build projects in KIRKBURTON for Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) installation.

Although the project is already underway, we will only be able to establish whether your address will be included or provide any further information on the build programme once the full survey process has been completed.

These surveys can take 3-6 months to complete, but once we can confirm the areas included in the programme, we will be in touch with more information about FTTP and the programme in this area.

In the meantime, you can find out more about fibre first on our website.

Kind regards,

Dashmeet Kaur
