FTTP still unavailable, possible options

json

Casual Member
Hello everyone,

I reside in Islington, London, and my residence is conveniently situated just 50 meters away from the Lower Holloway Exchange. My flat is part of a larger, older housing estate, but my specific block is relatively new, having been built in December 2007. It comprises two stories with two houses and two blocks of flats.

I've been eagerly awaiting the availability of FTTP (Fiber to the Premises) for quite some time now and have been exploring alternative options. While there haven't been many providers in the area, HyperOptic seems to be actively expanding, albeit possibly facing challenges due to the estate's infrastructure. Despite this, there's still uncertainty about when FTTP will become accessible.

Recently, I came across Amvia, a company offering a lease line or a Fibre Light connection. I must admit, I'm not entirely sure what a Fibre Light line entails. I've attached the quotes they provided for reference.

Could someone please shed some light on what exactly a Fibre Light connection is and whether it's suitable in terms of latency?

Upon reviewing the prices, I found them to be reasonable, especially considering that Amvia already serves customers in close proximity to my flat.

Attached are some pictures and the quote slide for your reference.

Any assistance or insights would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

There are probably using ITS for the leased line. as they website mentions this fibre light vs fibre bright etc.

So Fibre Bright is a leased line and fibre light is just a normal FTTP connection with an ONT.

ah ok nice, ive just found that part on the website too. Has anyone used that type of service before, and got any feedback, I just want faster download speeds and with a low latecny if am gaming.

Do you think those are resonable quotes ?

do you think Fibre Light is a waste of time ? i was considering that compared to a full leased line

the leased line is pretty price as i had a quote from them, sounds like we got the same pricing.

A leased line you will defo get lower pings as its just you on the line vs the normal FTTP which would be abit higher pings, nothing major though. i never seen anyone using ITS so its hard to say how good they routing is for pings etc.

I did ask ITS for some ping test which they did send over and it looked very good.

For a leased line, it is very cheap compared to getting a leased line by any company using Openreach which would cost you over £250 + for only 100mbps.

well i have FTTP here so i didnt go with ITS. i wanted to due to even lower latency but at the end it wouldnt be worth it as im getting super low pings anyway.

think it will be a long time, not even sure if its planned before Dec 2025 or 2026, whenever the cut off is :( esp by OpenReach

ok think i asked the wrong thing or might be me not know exactly the process, if i went with Amvia wouldnt they not send OR out to survey it ?

Amvia is using the company called ITS, so not it will not be OR coming over.

From the screenshot you showed at least thats what i figured out, you can always ask them too.

This would be why its much cheaper then OR's leased line prices...

also ask them which exchange they will be using as ITS told me they would use the exchange in Enfield rather then a closer one to me in New Southgate due to not having built here yet, would make the ping abit higher i say.

thanks I just spoke to them, they said am super close to the network so should get really high speeds. will think about it over next few days then decide what I wanna do thanks everyone
