Full Fibre switch anxiety

Anyone else have anxiety when switching full fibre provider?

My current BT 500Mbps full fibre contract expires on 22nd November and billed £50 p/m

I'm looking to move to a provider that is cheaper and still reliable as the connection Ive had with BT since early 2020.

Max price I'm prepared to pay is £40 and would ideally like 900mbps but will settle for 500 or 300 at a stretch.

Shortlisted providers are:

- Plusnet
- Vodafone
- Zen (no CPI)

I know I can get Zen at £40 p/m on 300mbps, £35 for Plusnet 500mbps and £36 for Vodafone 900mbps

Since I've been with BT I've never needed to speak to them on the phone for support or billing issues.

I just find the whole process of switching quite anxiety inducing and having read some nasty things about Vodafone I'm hesitant.

Would be good to hear from other people on this.

Thanks!

Why not enter into a new contract with BT if you have no issues, have you looked at the current plans available? If you tell them you're planning to leave aswell, I'm sure they'll offer you a deal.

Already tried that. The cheapest they could offer was £47 - and so when it comes to April, I'll be back over £50 again.

Would probably recommend TalkTalk then, wouldn't go for Vodafone too many BGP issues, currently with them and being routed through Swindon instead of London, ping is 6-8ms instead of 2-3ms it was before and speed all over the place.

do you care about having low ping? and getting two wifi 6 routers? then Talktalk, £45 for 900mbps.

Today we were at my daughter's place where I set her up with a 4G router loaded with a £20 unlimited data bundle on my iD Mobile PAYG SIM. She has a very strong Three 4G signal.

She's had such problems with Vodafone she can leave penalty-free. She now has 30 days to decide if she wants to go to another traditional 65Mbps ISP such as Sky or stick with 4G. One of my grandsons had poor wifi in his bedroom - now fixed with the MF286D router set to long wifi range. So they're happy (6GB used on my SIM so far!).

We've been on 4G-only for the last 18 months, no regrets. £13.65/month. I'll be moving to a prepaid EE data-only SIM when the contract ends - about £12 a month unlimited. I tested an RWG SIM in the Sercomm 4G router a couple of days ago - 188Mbps down so not too shabby.

Unfortunately 4G won't cut it for bandwidth heavy remote working.

Talktalk at £45 is tempting however this will go up to 50 in April when the CPI prices rise and then up to 55 the following April.

I might as well go with Zen which is fixed at £40 with no CPI rises.

If no voice requirement then if Plusnet are competitive I would go with them as effectively you get the same network on FTTP.

AAISP then - they don't raise prices and you can get it on a 1 month contract.

I’m loathe these days to recommend any consumer grade ISP. Honestly.

Could also try an ISP with 30 day contract terms on FTTP…and see how they fair. Then you’re not locked into a long an inflexible contract if the performance is suspect or the customer service is dreadful. TalkTalk looking at you babes 😎

If I was an ISP I would also make it no price increases if I was 2x the price of competition, there's no need to raise prices at that point! Simply charge £75/mo, + £100 setup fees for 1000/115, 1TB Limit.

Not to mention the bandwidth caps... Also if you don't sign up 12mo, remember they're charging you for the router too! How amazing!

YEA the prices are not good either with data caps, nop thank you :)

I quite like the quota - there is no ambiguity about how much you can and can't download. What I think a lot of people forget is that bandwidth upstream of an ISP costs money....

And what are you doing that 1TB isn't enough anyway?
