FUP on EE unlimited plans

Question is what Do they move you to at that point if it’s already a business account.
They do say 'more suitable' which I guess could be interpreted as more suitable for EE, as in a restricted data plan because you're using too much.

It's obvious most of the networks want to market unlimited data without actually providing it.

If it was someone who was using 10TB a week torrenting 24/7 I could understand it but I use over 600GB/month at home just with streaming and other day to day activities.

Oh yeah, same. They're pretty good. Very happy with them so far, 0 complaints and super speeds.

Still could be worse you could be Vodafone giving the first 200k existing monthly customers "unlimited data for 30 days", but it turns out its only 25gb in the small print.

Seems Vodafone believe unlimited is even less than EE!

why do you keep posting that when it's not true. if you had not skimmed it and read it properly, you'd have learned that was for roaming.
Vodafone's unlimited offer is ... wait for it ... unlimited. It is NOT 25GB.

For those of us that can actually read:

That does sound like a good deal. Currently paying £28/pm for unlimited personal plan. I've recently asked how much it would be to switch to a business account for the remainder of my 10 months. Will update here once I hear back.

I am guessing it does but do we know if uploads count towards the fair usage limit?

Uploads should count towards it, it's all traffic.

Having said that, I've overused the 600GB "quota" in December by 70GB accidentally (large backups) and lo and behold, no changes in speed or any alerts of any kind.

I suppose this is kind of positive news to hear - the limits aren‘t strictly enforced and are perhaps a policy to fall back on once they encounter abusive use of the network. *hopefully* anyway

Exactly my opinion, too. Not strictly enforced.

Any updates from anyone exceeding the FUP limit (either 600gb on personal or 1tb on business)?

Definitively considering switching from Voxi to EE, but committing to at least 12 months with such policy scares me a bit.

We've had a complaint or two on the forum (can't find it now) where a person exceeded the 600GB limit 2 times in less than 6 months and was throttled and had to cancel or something. So while it's not draconian, they are not turning a blind eye either.

Have a look at their business unlimited data sim, not only are they cheaper, but the limit there is 1TB.

Since lockdown, and working from home, I’ve not used less than 600GB in any month, and I’ve peaked at >1TB, with no noticeable throttling of the connection.

EE’s terms talk about what is considered unreasonable usage. With lockdown, and many people being forced to stay at home much of the time, I suspect it would be hard to argue that for many, increased home usage has not become normal usage.

Thank you so much @Lucian and @neilc.gardner - I've just ordered a business unlimited data sim as I suspect I will get to 1tb/month easily with me and my wife working from home and being on videocalls all day.
I'll keep posting here to let you know how it goes.

Hi there.
Thought I’d let you know my experience.
I had an ee sim in an htc 5G hub router which worked beautifully for two months.
Suddenly it would t stay connected for more than 5 minutes.

when I called EE they said that I must be connecting to more than 10 devices - they said the network will slow after 7 devices and disconnect after 10. This policy is super awful.

the average home now has smart products in it.
My setup at home included 4 HomePods, a PlayStation 4. A MacBook. An iPad. An iPhone. A smart tv. A smart plug. An Apple TV. A web connected printer and a hue lighting system.

The agent said I had excessive connected items and I argued that it was quite normal these days.
They then said regardless there is a 100gb tethering limit - which I argued against as there is no mention of it anywhere in the contract terms. I argued he was referring to the gifts or data. But he and his supervisor argued that there was in fact a tethering limit of 100gb also.

Rather than provide me with any options they just offered to cancel my contract. I wasn’t using excessive amounts of data. Maybe
per month or so. But the fair usage policy had me hamstringed.

so I had no choice but to leave. So I got a three sim which has no FUP but it has been dreadful. An internet outage across London and other major cities for the last week. No support from three. I miss EE and was happy paying double what I pay to three for a good service but they seemed to say there was nothing they could do.

Does anyone have any advice for a reliable and no FUP 5G sim only service?

not really sure what to do. No internet at all for the last 5 days and three are telling customers to just keep restarting their devices and pretending it isn’t a nationwide outage. Really flipping awful PR.

That's interesting because that's not what the current EE T&Cs for 'pay monthly unlimited data' SIMs say:

From https://ee.co.uk/content/dam/ee-hel...m/sim-only/ee-sim-only-price-plans-070721.pdf:

If you regularly tether 12 or more devices, we will consider this non-personal use and have the right to move you to a more suitable plan. We will consider usage above 600GB/month to be non-personal use and have the right to apply traffic management controls to deprioritise your mobile traffic during busy periods or to move you to a business plan

Nothing about slowing after 7 and disconnecting after 10. So unless they've recently altered the T&Cs and not publicly communicated them yet, that sounds like nonsense.

In the near future I'm about to move house to a more rural area and looking to use a 4G router with a SIM as a backup for if/when FTTC isn't working. EE have the best network where I'm moving to, but their antics around constantly changing the FUP and T&Cs for unlimited data really put me off.

So much for their 4G/5G proposition being a viable alternative to fixed line. I can completely understand the existence of some limits so they can protect their network resources, but 600GB/month and even 12 concurrent devices doesn't reflect a modern connected home these days, with home working, media/game streaming and cloud storage. From my current fixed line stats, I know my house (2 adults, 2 kids) regularly uses 700-800GB/month down & 80-100GB up, and I have 22 devices on my LAN as I speak.

@DownByTheRiver those must be older terms, this is not my experience.

@outofmyshed you usage is similar to mine, even a bit under and also similar in terms of connected devices. I've had no problems with EE, it's been my "broadband" for the last year.

I have my own router and with most traffic nowadays being encrypted I'm pretty sure they are unable to tell how many devices I am connecting and indeed is none of their business to be honest. Not my fault we're living in the era of wifi enabled toasters and washing machines ...

So, I recently spoke to EE regarding an unrelated issue (frequent WAN drops at random times on my H122-373 that require a reboot), and they mentioned that there was a note on their system which really frightened me. I had to ask the engineer to forward it to me for reference: "Customer has breached the Unlimited Data FUP for this bill cycle. Constraints have been implemented and will be removed at next bill cycle."

Strangely enough, other than the WAN drops, I didn't notice a significant reduction in speeds or ping. What's even more confusing is that I use about 1TB per month, so I do technically breach the FUP policy regularly. However, this billing cycle I've so far stayed well below 600GB, which even the engineer was happy to confirm.

He then proceeded to refresh my account, thus supposedly resetting the FUP limit, but once again, I noticed absolutely no difference in my speeds afterwards.

I'd be curious to hear if other heavy users (hi @Lucian) have had the same experience, or had EE mention something similar to them.
