FUP on EE unlimited plans

So, I recently spoke to EE regarding an unrelated issue (frequent WAN drops at random times on my H122-373 that require a reboot), and they mentioned that there was a note on their system which really frightened me. I had to ask the engineer to forward it to me for reference: "Customer has breached the Unlimited Data FUP for this bill cycle. Constraints have been implemented and will be removed at next bill cycle."

Strangely enough, other than the WAN drops, I didn't notice a significant reduction in speeds or ping. What's even more confusing is that I use about 1TB per month, so I do technically breach the FUP policy regularly. However, this billing cycle I've so far stayed well below 600GB, which even the engineer was happy to confirm.

He then proceeded to refresh my account, thus supposedly resetting the FUP limit, but once again, I noticed absolutely no difference in my speeds afterwards.

I'd be curious to hear if other heavy users (hi @Lucian) have had the same experience, or had EE mention something similar to them.
Thanks for this info i always wonder if they ever act on it, its the reason (the stated FUP), i havent gone with the EE Unlimited plans as i use quite allot of data, (2.3TB according to 3 last month" 600GB seems way to low compared to 3 and Vodafone

And O2 and their MVNOs at 650GB but with O2 speeds that seems quite difficult to reach

Absolutely impossible 😂

I’m due to travel tomorrow so I’ve equipped my Three sim and my O2 sim to see how they perform in Feurteventura for a week, as well as the travel to and from Birmingham airport.

Hi @Sceptical fox

I've not seen any issues, but I have been "balancing" my connection with a Three 5G, so probably I don't go over their FUP.
That said, I do not find that thing frightening at all, I was pretty sure they do have monitoring and alerts in place. In all likeliness they are not actually enforcing said constraints, as you have noticed yourself.

Good job I'm not in charge, the second you reached 1TB, your data would be stopped. Rediculous so it is. 👿

I would feel so guilty going over a FUP I probably wouldn't sleep at night.😇

Yes, atleast around my area 02 is the worst by far for performance, and the 02 checker claims im in a busy area now and advises the use of WIFI.
Slow2 puts this message up anytime there are more than 2 people connected to the same mast.

Bit cheeky asking people to use WIFI instead when you are paying them for a data service.
Yup. They don’t give a toss 😂 just greedy through and through. Their Twitter is full of connectivity complaints and still; very little done to remedy it.

The priority rewards are worth it, and to be fair I’m never without signal and it works for what I need it, and the refresh plan works for me as it’s flexible and can pay off my phone in chunks how I want to.
O2 is the exact opposite where I live lol. I can barely get 1 bar in the main village but on three the signal is ace

I will be getting an EE unlimited sim this week, and i use around 1.4TB a month, happy to report any issues i encounter with the FUP here :)

Great, we'll be eagerly awaiting your findings! ;)

I've so far used about 1.5TB this month and have 2 more weeks until the end of my billing cycle. No noticeable speed drop for the moment.

I'm also going to have another EE 5G SIM available for some time so I can do a direct comparison between a (supposedly) FUP'd account and an unrestricted one. I'll keep you all posted.

That will be interesting, Any restrictions they apply to me in my area are likely to be noticable as my local site only has a single band 3 carrier.

Funny enough i hammered my EE sim several months back. I had a load balanced router and had my EE sim as back up. But once my main sim dropped, it never came back on, so it was all EE. I must of used about 1TB worth in 4-5 days and i would of kept going at that rate if i hadn't noticed my speeds had dropped to a crippling slow speed. Took it off the load balanced router and it was still the same, they had capped my speed to the low single digits. I could still send whatsapp messages and look at the odd website, but forget streaming. didn't return to normal till the monthly refresh

That's harsh and somewhat unexpected for a provider that claims not to throttle speeds in their KFI.

The monthly plan T&Cs state that they might "deprioritise" your traffic during busy periods but it sounds like they did a lot more than that! Did you try to complain?

Meanwhile, I'm approaching 2TB this month and speeds are still holding steady.

I didnt complain, to be fair, i just assumed that was the norm. I try to do all my downloading on Three and my EE is just for games and updates. I'll test the waters again another day.

Very interesting! Maybe what action they take depends on if the area is facing congestion issues, I would/will certainly complain if it happens to me, sim should arrive tomorrow but we are having issues with our post currently.
