Gaming issues at around midnight happening more often (DNS?)

I am noticing that recently Virgin is having internet issues past midnight, I am on Discord playing a game of League or whatever and I disconnect from my game and can no longer speak on discord. My internet seems to work fine for websites like twitch and youtube but I can't connect or play any games for 20-30 minutes till it fixes it self and this has happened a few times over the last month around midnight.

I have a friend online who is also on virgin and lives around 150 miles away from me that is also having the same issues and disconnects with me at the exact same time. I also check twitter and see hundreds of tweets pop up about virgin having issues at this exact same time.

You would never notice this issue if you are not on discord or gaming as my twitch and youtube etc works just fine and it only lasts 20-30 minutes but it can be EXTREMELY frustrating if you are in a game of League or Valorant because those 20-30 minutes mean its game over.

I would also like to add that my desktop PC is configured to Google DNS and this issue still happens. My friend who is 150 miles away is using the default virgin DNS.

switch to FTTP.

VM is bad i was with them and my ping was always bad and randomly lagging for no reason and VM will not fix this its just the terrible docsis service they have.

use this link to check if you have FTTP in your area, https://bidb.uk/

I was thinking of doing this but my Virgin is contracted till next August.

I can get FTTP in my area but only over open reach is there anybody who is better if I care about latency and gaming for open reach or is it all pretty much the same.

Also these issues are the only thing I have with virgin and it barley ever happens, last year I think it happened twice at max. When I am gaming and don't get this random disconnect that seems to affect thousands of people my ping and latency is extremely stable.

Which provider are you on, Like I said I only get open reach and not cityfibre so my choices are BT,Sky,giganet etc on openreach.

Yes I am up north and yes it did happen last night, I was in Discord with 5 friends and 2 of us are on Virgin... I am based in Yorkshire and he is closer to Manchester and we both got disconnected from our game and were unable to talk in Discord for 25-30 minutes.

We both had red bars on discord and could hear people talking but could not talk and we could still type to everyone and view other sites like twitch and youtube etc.

We had this exact same issue happen around 10 days ago as well on a different game and before that it has happened a handful of times this year.

Im on Virgin FTTP, but it still happened to me :P Yesterday from mid-day my net was off/on, then at midnight, something happened and I couldn't play games either, yet everything else worked fine, will see today if the same issue or not, let's hope not.

I'm North Yorkshire same happened to me, disconnected from the game but could still chat in Discord, assumed the game I was playing was down =-/.

And the same, chatting to a person from Wigan, who had the same issue as me.

Yep the exact same issue, I posted about it on the VM forums but they keep telling me they want to check my hub but they cant because its in modem mode and blah blah even though I am 100000000% sure that the issue is not on my end. Its too much hassle for me to switch to modem mode off for an issue I know has nothing to do with me.

This same issue has been happening before though, I even remember it happening last year but it only happened 2 or 3 times throughout the whole of 2022 from what I remember but now it has happened 2 times in the span of 10 days that I know of (last night and August 2nd)

The annoying part is that if you are not gaming or on discord you would never know about it so 95% of people would never report it an issue even though it is, disconnecting during a league game is pretty infuriating as it pretty much means game over.

all I know is that if it happens gain I am most likely switching to BT or Giganet for my gaming. Will just use my Virgin to download games etc and switch between ethernets.

Also I am West Yorkshire so we are not that close, seems to be a big issue with something in the North. One of my friends lives in Wales and is on Virgin playing with us as well and he doesn't get these issues.

I'm friends with an engineer and he said there was an issue in York, so I can just assume all our traffic goes through there.. if you want out of virgin early make a complaint, explain the issues your having and explain your not the only one, after a few chats, explain they aren't offering you a solid service and you want out of your contact. then just sign up for fttp, check for best deals though first, via cable.co.uk etc any fttp you get feed from OR will be the same, no matter what company IMO, so just pay the cheapest for the highest speed you can.

Where I am only Openreach offers FTP right now so I am just going to go with Giganet or BT who offer the best value. I think I might try Giganet as you can cancel it anytime and will leave my Virgin contract running at the same time just incase I find it worse.

I am currently on a Virgin FTTC plan though. Cityfibre are starting to roll out in my area though and they seem to be better so Giganet is also a safer bet for when they come around. But right now I am waiting to see if Virgin gets any worse.

Also if I may ask I see you have Virgin FTTP, what kind of ping benefits did you notice from that versus FTTC on games?

my ping is around 4-11ms, it could be better but its something to do with how the network is routed, when it's working, it's solid.

check out sites such as https://bidb.uk and https://one.network really good for checking when they are coming to your area "roughly"

Ye it looks like Cityfibre probably wont be in my area for another 6-12 months so Openreach Giganet is what I will go with I think.
What's the best speed/price you've seen on cable.co.uk? should check Quidco too
but also put in a complaint to virgin, if it keeps happening, you can get out, its annoying isn't it, >.<
