Geo Internet, Gio Internet?

Surely all this must raise a few alarms with the powers that be.....

Is there anyone *official* that could investigate this?

The only thing I can see is that they haven't actually done anything illegal AFAICS.....
I don't know how they got the mailing list...

Could they legally buy that list at all? Maybe if they buyout the original company for instance?

Depending on how they acquired their spamming list, they might be in breach of The Privacy and Electronic Communications act http://www.informationcommissioner.gov.uk/eventual.aspx?id=35

However, I believe if a company goes bust, then their customer database is considered an asset that can leaglly be sold on. But if correct I doubt the following could be legal ?
The only way they could have got this address was by logging it when it went through their server and then using it for their own gain

I think ISPs have to be a member of an ADR scheme if they are responsible for billing, so they, or if they are just a reseller the company behind them should be a member of otelo or cisas - if you can't find out which I guess you complain to Ofcom.

Geo Internet or Gio Internet ??

To be honest, I will never trust if Geo Internet is Gio Internet or not, I wouldn't dare touch this isp because it never appear to be a biggest isp's company.

I would stick and staying with well known isp's Plusnet because I been with them for a year now and so happy with my service. As the price is too good to be true for a truely no restriction on download or no cap on it for a cheaper £13.99 a month for 2Mb. It so hard to believe it. I am using Plusnet 2Mb for surf the net, email and a small download such Microsoft updates at the price of £14.99 per month but it still restrict to download usages such as file sharing is not suitable. I cannot see that Geo Internet is unlimited at £13.99 as BT will not accepted that as we all know that.

I will never sign up not for the cheaper price but beware of this isp could be Gio ???

We had an e-mail from somebody that used to work for Gio and is now with another ISP, he shed some more interesting information and this mirrors a lot of what has already been found:

They are the same company and the hauka uk head office is within a 2 min walk of where this new company is based in rochdale, also if you have a
look at the list of directors there is a cynet services aswell which is part of a bigger group www.digitalspinners.com/contactUs.asp , that has all the same kind of businesses listed and also in roughly the same locations like it is here in rochdale, the main person Abdul Khaliq isnt named on anything but he is behind it and will be doing the tech sales etc in his call centre in pakistan and just have sent over a couple of his minions to do the dirty work over here as he is wanted for about 1.5m debt to different backbone providers.

I have had a look at some of the headers for the spam and they are coming from pakistan and it appears that it is Hauka that is doing it from the call centre using a pure smtp machine as it doesn't respond to any open relay check probes (www.abuse.net).

Theres several IP's some from pakistan some satalite and also one or 2 from a different ISP/hosting company in the UK, also geo have a relationship with powernet.co.uk I think that's who they are reselling now.

Much as setup.custard point out in the other Gio thread:

I can't see an address anywhere either, but I found this in Privacy Policy bit of the T&C:

>

How can you find out what personal information we hold about you?

If you want to know what personal information we hold about you, please write to the following address, enclosing a cheque for the administration fee of £10 made payable to “Hauka” and post to the address on our website:

>

Now - that name's just ever so slightly familiar, isn't it?

Please also note that I've closed the other topic ( http://www.ispreview.co.uk/talk/showthread.php?t=19880 ) so as to centralise discussion in this one.

And seeing as this domain is being used for business purposes the address cannot be omitted from the whois database. Anyone fancy dobbing them in to http://www.nominet.org.uk/ ? ;)
Oh look the whois database has been updated, wonder how that happened! ;)

They really should have looked through the website more closely. Found this in their description of teh 2mb package.

Home 2048
The latest high-speed broadband service with extra speed for single or multiple family users, teleworkers and small-office businesses. With bandwidth to spare, Nahda Home 2048 is ideal for home or office networks, and any situation where more speed is required at an affordable price.

So whats the next step? Obviously its gio again, and are already doing dubious things, so do they get reported and who to?

I would think their creditors were already sitting up and taking notice!!

There is another thing wrong here.....
If you look at the ADC Debt Management site....Also sharing the Robin hood st address and a part of the Nahda empire....

There are 2 addresses.....

29 Harley Street
London
W1G 9QR

And

Robin Hood Suite
5 Robin Hood street
Cheethamhill Road
Manchester
M8 9JB

Note Passcode.....
Now...The address at companies house is....
ADC ORGANISATION LTD
5 ROBIN HOOD STREET
CHEETHAM HILL
MANCHESTER
LANCASHIRE M8 5JE

Note Postcode....
Now I'm sure typos exist...But.....
All a bit fishy if ask me....

Posted that already :D
my best guess was the address could be:-

General & Commercial Guarantee Ltd, 5, Robin Hood Street, MANCHESTER, M8 9JG

Looking up General & Commercial Guarantee Ltd at companies house gives
Status: Active - Proposal to Strike off

Maybe the royalmail records are out of date, or maybe that's fishy too

According to teh royal mail websitethe correct postcode for 5 Robin Hood Street is M8 9JG

They list General & Commercial Guarentee as being the only business at that address

The next question is.....

If *we* can get all this information so easily.....And if I can get any of this then it is easy! (Proud member of the 40watt club, me!)

Why can the proper authorities not do a proper investigation?
Or am I missing something?

http://www.geo.tv/ is t Asian TV Channel.

Same branding etc.

The logo's are slightly different, one has a small circle with a curve over the top, the other is a small square with a line. SO are they one and the same or are they trying to pass themselves off?

Et Global Solutions to Gio to Geo. This guy knows how to run these businesses. Get your customers money, don't pay your creditors, move on. Typical pheonix set-up.

Unless the directors are struck-off during the liquidation investigation they must be able to continue working as a director. This is the system, how limited companies act works in our country.

Directors have to found at fault for their companies problems for companies house to take action. Whose fault is determined at liquidation by the liquidators report. It has to be serious and big money before any action is taken. As long as the creditors accept their losses and don't press for action, nothing happens. You would have to be at a creditors liquidation meeting to believe it, if there is not enough assets to share or fight over between the companies liquidators & the creditors liquidators so they can make a good profit closing it down, they agree secretly who is going to handle it and wrap it up quickly. The creditors write it off as it is not a big enough debt to persue.

The trick is not to go bust owing one company too much money. Even if you do get barred from holding a directorship you can still operate through someone else if you can trust them not to stitch you up.

It is now down to the suppliers / sellers of the services to decide if the give a 'new' company credit which allows it to grow. These suppliers are in the business of gaining new customers / market share and will often ignore the past providing references are OK or the initial payments are up-front. Also they are insured against losses like these.

This is the system, it allows all limited companies to make mistakes and start again otherwise new enterprises would be stifled. With this system you have to suffer the few unscrupulous people who take advantage of it.
