Geo Internet, Gio Internet?

I'm not sure how far I'd trust these guys - normally I'm willing to try something new and their prices do look very good - I'm moving home again soon, so thought I'd check these guys out.

Although on the face of it their site is fairly well put together, there are a few things which make me concerned enough to put my money towards another ISP:

- A DNS Lookup does not reveal the companies trading address (not essential, but I wonder why they want to hide it).
- They're signup page is an https address so a padlock appears, but the security certificate is invalid - I don't feel comfortable putting my details across an unsecure connection.
- Nahda.co.uk who appear on a DNS lookup also were affiliated with GIO (I understand), suggesting GEO are indeed GIO afterall.

Until all comes clear I'm going to stay with NTL.

Its all gone very quite on the Geo front. I notice the web site is still up and running with a December offer... wow, now thats an offer I can and will refuse.

I wonder if the Gio director is busy printing off incorrect debt collection letters in time to drop through ex subscribers letter boxes with the christmas cards like last year.

Looks like another e-mail to nominet is in order:

They must be reading this forum......

And if they are they must be close to having a sweat on by now.

I wonder if any of the official people are talking to them?

Perhaps they will now stop sending Spam e mail to ex customers, as if anyone in their right mind would return to anything that even sounds like Geo is beyond comprehension.

Just hope the authorities look in here from time to time.

They should.

Just to let you all know, OFCOM are investigating geo internet and they have been informed of the research that has coming to light on this forum. Keep up the good work, I'm sure they will appreciate any information that will help in their enquiries.

We must remember though that they might be trading legally, so be careful how you word your comments.

This was mentioned over in ADSLGuide forum recently -
Geointernet are one of three ISPs being investigated over their apparent failure to implement and comply with a Dispute Resolution Scheme in contravention of the 2003 conmunications act.

Did anyone notice that the address Ofcom had was different AGAIN from all the others posted so far?

I hope they pick these things up

One good way for them to know is to send them a link to this thread and others from the GIO forums.

If you click on enter you can access the website and continue to sign up I was unable to check it all as I haven't a BT line.

Suffice to say, we won't be adding this one to our listings =).

I hope that doesn't mean people cant complain about them or leave bad review. This is what the site is primarily for isnt it.

I agree perhaps we should have a special listing for those like Geo with warnings about your health if you sign up.

A very quick look at a few of the other ISPs that use the nahda.co.uk namesever (may not be connected in any other way of course):-

The bbc one seems to have gone completely - there's no name server for it now http://www.whois.sc/bbc247.co.uk

www.qibla-internet.co.uk still seems to be up and running http://www.whois.sc/qibla-internet.co.uk I wonder if they are registered with an ADR.

www.Bigblueinternet.com is still dead, registered to GIO and has nahda.co.uk set up as its domainserver http://www.whois.sc/bigblueinternet.com

Interesting

and this time he has the audasity to attach his photo to the website

Where is the link to his picture, I wonder also how do you know what he looks like.

Cheers
