Getting ISDN next week! one hardware problem though (Online Gaming)

Hi there, getting 64k/128k ISDN next week (only 200 meters from exchange :D ) but there is a little problem i have run into.

Lots of people have said that the box they give you that goes into your USB port only gives about 80-120ms ping on most games to a local server, where a Internal IDSN card can give you a good 40-60ms on a 64k line.

Well the problem is that i have got a laptop, so i cannot take it apart and install a IDSN card. So my question is can i get a External IDSN card that will either connect so my Ethernet port/PCMCIA slot/15 pin Serial Port and still get the same ping as Internal IDSN?

Thanks in advance

There's loads of PCMCIA cards which are ISDN capable. They will give you the best pings. I prefer the psion dacom gold cards (http://www.psion.com/connect/gcisdna.htm)

I have exactly the same problem mrboot.

Except I need a USB DVB - costing nearly £200!

People with laptops are really penalised!

Would it not be possible to get a lead that goes into the plug on the BTHighwayBox which normally goes into your isdn card which can connect the box straight up to Ethernet?

surely that would be fast

A direct link from the box to ethernet via a cable?

If you want an ethernet connection from the ISDN box you need to purchase a ISDN router. This is going to be alot more flexible than a pcmcia card (will provide access for all machines on a network etc.). If you shop around you can pick one up for under £100.

no need to buy a router dont waste ur money,go to redstore.com and buy the asus isdn adapter £15 i've used one for the last 6 months and gives good pings at a cheap price, if you have two pc's u want to connect then use the usb on one and the pci on the other,by the way i used to connect through bothe usb and pci as the usb gave better download speeds

The asus card will not plug into the laptop though!

Best bet look through eBay for a isdn router or a PCMCIA card, can pick them up very cheap at the moment due to all the peoples changing to ADSL

Well I come across this ISDN router, it had 6 ethernet slots to go out, it was £100 i believe.

But i will only ever need 1 ethernet port, could i get a isdn router with just 1 ethernet out port for considerably cheaper?

Or another way i was looking into was, getting a internal ISDN card to go into the back of my old PC (i can get a reasonably good one for £20) then lanning my PC to my laptop

But I am not sure how i will , I only have a sieral port free on my PC, and MAYBE a PCI slot, but i doubt it.

Could i get a Internal ISDN card for my PC that i can also hook up to my laptop? if so how much?

Thanks again, this is starting to get confusing :p
