giffgaff customers need to have 4G VoLTE calling and WiFi calling on their network

I have an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G on also looking for a network that can provide me with 4G VoLTE calling and WiFi calling even though my phone's unlocked to any network and I'm also looking for an network NVNO and voicemail included in my Plan most importantly I want to cancel at any time and even though my Samsung s22 ultra is unlocked I really wanna find the network with the best customer service even though even though I don't like voxi and SMARTY and leabara that's the networks I have ruled out and will not be looking at
that doesn’t exist on an mvno. closest you’ll get is lebara as they’re the only decent option apart from maybe asda with phone support.

It stopped working
It was the turn of EE this morning in my area, was happily listening to a streamed radio station and than nothing, no EE signal at all for nearly 3hrs give or take.

Was it someone at O2/EE forgot to pay the leccy bill?

And while Giff Gaff and O2 are still in the dark ages where network connectivity is concerned, their users where they can get a good O2 signal can still use Telegram, Whatsapp or Skype to make calls.

It's the turn of Three now here. 🥲

My three came back after about an hour.
I wonder what is causing the issues, I'm lucky that the Sainsbury at work has a pretty good wifi network supplied by O2 where access is possible even outside the store where I can use it if my mobile data is not working, as it was I checked my data usage on the 1pMobile website to see it had got renewed this morning so it wasn't like I had ran out of data but what I found strange was literally any mast I was connecting to in Luton town centre, along the busway and in Dunstable itself I just couldn't get a signal at all.

As to wifi calling, I sometimes use Whatsapp to make calls and it does the job.

I don't for the life of me get why this person doesn't just switch to another network that has the features they need. It's not like they're locked into a long-term contract, they're with Giffgaff. I think they've been asked a few times why they don't switch to an alternative (Smarty, Voxi, Lebara, 1p, etc etc etc) but they just keep posting the same video with the same complaint about Giffgaff.

Indeed, I take the view that that O2 are as likely to introduce those features within the next 2 years or ever as there is of me winning £million or more on the lotteries.

In other words, zero chance so instead of moaning about Giff Gaff and their inability to drag their carcass out of the dark ages, why not just take your business elsewhere?

Don't know about the OP's reasons, but I'm in a similar position of wanting VoIP / 4G Calling but not wanting to leave the O2 network due to network coverage. According to Ofcom figures, EE has the best coverage in our region with 73%, followed by Vodafone 65%, O2 62% and Three 56%, but in my experience O2 has the best coverage, followed by vodafone, then EE (which struggles to provide indoor coverage), then Three (which basically has no coverage anywhere). So Vodafone is the only realistic alternative, but the coverage isn't quite as good as O2, so it would be really nice if O2 would just get their act together.

O2 Themselves and Virgin Mobile support VoLTE and WiFi Calling, and there's actually some pretty good deals to go with these main networks directly via sites like Uswitch rather than MVNOs like Giffgaff who don't support it. I believe Tesco are almost complete with the roll out of this feature now too.

Your points about EE not having good indoor coverage are likely either outdated, or based upon using a cheap MVNO too. EE Support VoLTE, and prioritise this over their 800MHz/Band 20 Frequency. 800MHz being one of the lowest possible frequencies used by mobile networks in the UK, and the lower the frequency the better the ability to pass through walls for indoor coverage, as well as distant coverage in rural areas far away from the transmitter... So I can only assume you have tried EE many years ago and gave up on them, or tried with a cheap piggybacker like Plusnet, RWG/Now Mobile etc. - The ones who use EE Signal but don't allow access to the Band 20 frequency or VoLTE.

If o2 is indeed the best where you are then that's fair enough. There are a few edge cases where this will be true. But looking at the UK as a whole, the o2 network is awfully congested these days in a lot of places to the point where data is straight up unusable at times. I couldn't personally recommend them to anyone until they take this matter seriously and boost capacity on their network and supply enough bandwidth rather than just trying to bring EVEN MORE customers on board to a network that simply can't cope with the load in it's current state.

Although Tesco Mobile like O2 themselves only offer wifi calling and 4G calling to those who have a Pay Monthly contract.

Indeed Tesco Mobile's view of their Pay As You Go users having this basic service says a lot about their opinion of this market:

If you’re on pay as you go or your phone doesn’t support Wi-Fi Calling and 4G Calling, to get these services you’ll have to upgrade to a pay monthly phone that supports Wi-Fi Calling and 4G Calling. You can take a look at our range of options here. Once you’ve upgraded you’ll be good to go.

Which makes them very unattractive for those who prefer PAYG and who might struggle with coverage.

Far better to avoid O2 and it's MNVOs if PAYG is your preferred option and stick with the likes of Three, Vodafone, EE and their MNVOs who do offer this basic service.
