Gigaclear VOIP Problems

Using the Gigaclear VOIP service with the provided Grandstream box. Approximately 50% of incoming calls do not connect properly when answered. The caller just hears ringing and a click when I answer but I get a noisy line and, when I hang up, it continues to ring and on answering again the call is fine.
I have tried different handsets and reset the Grandstream multiple times and, to be honest, am just going round in circles with Gigaclear support as they dont seem to understand the issue.
I am on the verge of moving the number over to A&A but wondered if anyone had any suggestions on next steps or other things i could try before abandoning Gigaclear?

Thanks, I can ask but the their Grandstream connects to a spare port on the ONT rather than on the router. I have a extra Grandstream I could use temporarily if they will tell me.

I asked and their first reply was to tell me how to switch off ALG in the router which is irrelevant as the ata isn’t connected to the router directly and ALG is off by default anyway. I have sent them a screenshot of the SIP registration page on the Grandstream but am not hopeful to get the detail especially the password.

What happens if you use the Grandstream plugged into your router? Just wondering if that’d work. Would depend on whether there’s any bespoke config but I’ve generally found you can use an ISP supplied Grandstream ATA on any ISP.

Will Gigaclear give you the SIP registration details?
Wow, this is their response, I am stunned (or not):
Unfortunately we would not have SIP registration details as our phone service does not go through a Private Branch Exchange. Our equipment is analogue phone which gets converted to digital through the black Grandstream box on the wall.

This is all a bit unusual.

From the connection in the home being another Ethernet connection on the ONT it sounds like Gigaclear have a seperate VoIP network (arguably a nice way to do it) and I wonder if they hand off the whole thing to a third party VoIP service supplier.

I think I read somewhere they use Vonage but I may be wrong.

I think they have potentially misunderstood and mixed things up a bit. The analogue phone does get converted into digital at your end, which is the function of the ATA. I suspect what they're saying is they won't provide SIP details, as they don't host the PBX and as others have said, utilise a 3rd party. That being said, it is still worth trying the Grandstream going via the router. It may still be configured to use public internet and Gigaclear employ some form of QoS on the dedicated ONT port.

Thanks, I will try that this weekend. When its connected to the router I should be able to log in to its web interface too and take a note of all the settings also.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Grandstream device setup is locked down or inaccessible to customers. I've seen it where only the ISP has remote access.

The Grandstream won’t register when connected to the router so that doesn’t work. Was able to get to the web gui but I don’t have the admin password so couldn’t get any further.
