Giving up on CPE PRO 2 need a good alternative

Hey all,

So has this router for less than 6 months now bought from Amazon and main issue is that it randomly drops Wi-Fi and then goes to mobile data and then switches back to Wi-Fi. It drops for a few secs or so. This happens on certain devices.

I have put up with it but now spoke to Amazon and they are offering to refund me or replace device. I am going for the refund.

I am looking at alternatives maximum going to pay is £370. I prefer to buy from Amazon as the customer service in my experience with them when it comes to these issues are great.

Help me out guys here please. So I was looking at the below but my understanding is that this is a mixed bag of with folks reporting problems and some folks aren’t.

MC801A

Any other alternatives that can be recommend please? Ideally want the device to support Wi-Fi 6.

Thanks in advance

How about taking out a new contract with 3 now that they have replaced the ZTE with the ZYXEL NR5103E.

Try Fiberhome 5G CPE . Mediatek T750 , Cell Lock, Band Lock , NR 2CC

I was looking at the one but don’t fancy a long term contract for 2 years. Got a smarty sim I am happy with. Thanks for the suggestion.

Looks good but only looking at the options if it’s available on Amazon.

Just Amazon UK or all countries?
Amazon U.K. I have decided though to give the

ZTE 5G CPE MC801A

a go and see how that performs. Does anyone know if this router compared to my current 5g router is on the same level in terms of performance? Like Wi-Fi performance and 5G connectivity? I am not too far from the local 3 5G POW so don’t need any additional aerials etc.

Bought my 3 branded one at CEX for £120 and on 4G it seems to perform similar to the CPE Pro 2.

WiFi much the same, although WiFi strength isn't anything to write home about, same as the Pro 2.

I've had my CPE Pro 2 for 2 and a half years and never had any WiFi drop outs like you mentioned.

Unfortunately can't comment on 5G performance as I don't have that strange phenomenon yet. 😊

I'm sure it will do you fine Nomader.

Best of luck, let us know what you think. (y)

My CPE wifi is so strong it blocks the Devolo wifi in the same room. Maybe not blocks but the Huawei takes over the link to a tablet when starting with the Devolo.

Thank you for that TWB. I keep getting tempted with the new router on the 3 website. I do like shiny new gadgets but I am resisting. I am happy with £16 a month with smarty. So saying no to that. Yeah I noticed you have the same router and not had any issues that I have had. I will see how it goes with this new one and if it gives issues I can always return and try the

CPE PRO 2

again. By the way do you know if the CPE pro 2 has a successor model or if it’s under a different name?

Is it the pro 2 you have as well?

I've had quite a few Huawei routers over the years and WiFi is ok in the house, but they all fail to be much good in the garden which isn't far away.

I guess that's not a major problem though.

Yes there is a CPE Pro 3, but strangely enough, It's a slightly cut down version of the 2, figure that one out. 😊

Hauwei CPE Pro 3

Ah okay. I wonder why that is. I have also came across I believe a company called live wire. Is that a hauwei company in disguise?

By the way it’s been 4 months since I got rid of my old copper based FTTP slow broadband and just looked at my average use on smarty over 4 months it’s worked out to be about 1422gb a month usage. Am I using to much as not been contacted by smarty yet haha

Nah 3 or Smarty really don't care how much you use. (y)
LiveWire / eFones are just a retailer for Huawei goodies.

Ah good to know. You know I am just thinking. Don’t know if you or anyone else can answer this. I am wondering if being connected to the 5GHz Wi-Fi on the router is the cause of random Wi-Fi drop outs? I mean I have now switched my mobile to the non 5GHz Wi-Fi option from my router and will just see if I notice any drop outs, as my laptop is always connected to 5GHZ and not noticed issues with that. But with phones and tablets I do notice this issue.

All my streaming devices are connected via 5GHz and are all fine Nomader, I just connect all the rest of the junk like the billion smartplugs, echo devices etc via 2.4GHz and all seems to always be hunky dory. 😊

Not sure what could be causing your dropouts.

You could grab a couple of Huawei ax3 from Amazon and using link+ make them your wireless network and see if the wireless issue vanishes.

Not too sure either. I have cancelled the router I was getting tomorrow. Ideally it’s working fine for my laptop for work from home. So don’t to take a risk of disrupting that with a new router it’s just the other devices that sometimes randomly loses the signal for a few and then goes back to normal.
